Question about 1998 Subaru Impreza

Knocking noise from engine at > 2000 RPM.. any ideas??

Hey there, hope someone can help with this..

My car makes a horrible knocking noise when revs get over about 2k.

Subaru repair agents reckon whole motor is shot and needs replacing. Advised "Big End Bearing" was damaged. However, have since been advised that if this was so, pistons should have appeared out the sides of the motor by now...

Anyone got any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix???

It does sound like a big end bearing and yes the piston will come outta the bloc k eventually if you keep driving
it can be replaced no need for a new engine
you will need a engine if it does come outta the side
but to fix a big end is not that much, if u need a new engine for your veichle is about a few grand

but 100 percent big end bearing i done one last week on a suburu wrx imprezza turb all up it was 550 or so

F22a engine produces strange noise most obvious at 2000 rpm, what could the problem be?

Without a general description of what the noice sounds like, squeal as compared to knocking, it is impossible to help you. Engines make a lot of different noises, so try and help by describing noise. I would suspect it is belt related, or tension pulley related as these are RPM variable noises, belts tend to slip when you accelerate and can be quite loud with a serpentine belt as example.

Knocking or banging back side of engine some times top

Unfortunately, it sounds like you have a spun bearing. This is a severe engine problem that reqiures major engine work, if left unaddress it will destroy your engine.
Please note I underlined "sounds like", you need to have someone check the engine to make sure.

Engine knocking noise in 2000 saab 9-3 SE?

It's a common problem with these cars i am actually fixing mine as of now. That car is all about oil pressure and when it is low you'll start to get a tap and or what sounds like a knock due to the lifters not having enough pressure. Try taking your oil pan off and check your oil pick up line going from the oil pan to the turbo. A lot of times it gets a lot of sludge build up and makes the pressure little to none. If that looks clear check the slump inside the oil pan and see if that has sludge build up. Well hope this helped

Knocking noise under the hood when the car goes past 2000 RPM

check for oil pressure posibly not good if its a progressive knock with acceleration it may be defective engine bearings, or a stretched timing chain, go to a local shop if it is any of both you will need a good mechanic to make the job, i hope it helps please rate

2000 saturn upper engine knocking

noise is caused by lack of oil to lifters, or worn timeing chain. if noise is from lifters it should go away wit proper oil level, if still there needs timeing chain.

Engine knocking.

Hi,my 92 prado started making a knocking sound recently,we couldn't pin it down to one spot in the engine.
The knocking was constant at low revs and then disapeared.
Turned out to be the tourque converter knob had bust of and eventually destroyed the fly wheel and the transmission pump.
Definatley check under top cover and also drop off the sump to check for loose nuts etc.
hope this helps.

Making a knocking noise

This is most likely either a piston noise or a connecting rod bearing knock

Engine idol knocking noise stalls while holding on footbrake

Hi portop,
Have the valve clearances checked, it could be tappits noise.....Has the vehicle ever been over heated? How's the power output from the engine, has it changed since you've had the vehicle? Does the sound disappear completely, or is the knocking sped up so it's faster and becomes hidden?

I think that it will be a good idea for you to have a technician listen to the engine, to make sure that you don't have a serious problem. Get two or three opinions
