I have same issue with my 2002 C320, while playing with the car battery, I did something stupid and now the SRS is on.
Did you manage to get yours turned off. How can I get it reset without paying the stealership.

The Mercedes C280 SRS, incorporates the seatbelt pretensioners, and the airbags ie passenger curtain drivers etc, If the accident was enough too set off the seatbelt pretensioners this would log a code into the SRS control module.
Did the car get repaired at a Mercedes dealer or panel/smash repairs?
If it was repaired at the panel/smash they may not have reset or replaced the control module for the SRS .
Specifically which ever way you go about it. The SRS control module must be read to access the faults and cleared or rectified.
The engine light may be related, but if it was on before the accident, then get this checked as well at the same time the SRS module is being checked, or read.
I hope this helps
