Question about 2000 Renault 181

Mechanical Problem Good morning, I own a Clio, 2000 model, my car wouldnt start about three weeks ago, I then took it to Renualt Northcliff, they told me that my key didnt work . They then ordered a key for me, when my key arrived they they then said the battery fluid or acid, or something to that effect had come out of the battery and had eatned away the wiring and the computer box of my car. Now I want to know, if that is the case, would that not be visible when the bonnet is opened? How come they couldnt tell me that when my car first arrived there? I am not a mechanic but, I know that nothing seemed visibly wrong in the engine when I took my car to them. Please explain how this could have happened.

I suspect either a bad voltage regulator (should show up on the alternator test) or something is draining the battery when off. Draining a battery below 12V can cause un-repairable damage to a battery although if only a few weeks old you might try to recondition it with a reconditioning charger.
