Idle problem for Ford Mondeo 94

I own a Ford Mondeo 1994 automatic 2.0. Recently, I encountered a problem regarding the idle. Everytime I take a reverse and coming from the stoplight, the engine stops ( the idle goes down until the engine stops ). I have already replaced the plugs but the problem still remains. What is wrong with my car and what should I do with it? Thanks!

Thanks for your help. The engine does'nt heat up the temp gauge below the normal. at first few minutes driving the rev still ok but when i stop the car or make a reverse for parking the idle goes down or worse engine stop. Can i adjust the idle a little bit high about 1000rpm manually on the engine? is it possible on EFI? Thanks for any help.

I will offer advice on any engine idle down to a stop. If you have to feather the throttle on a gas engine at idle to keep it running it may/should be a air gas ratio problem. I would first get an obd-2 scan tool (borrow one or try to quick use one from an auto parts store). If you have a lit engine light it will give you solutions in the form of a code that you can reference online. I have had this issue on a 95 LeBaron and I was led to replace the EGR solenoid (Exaust gas recirculator). What happened in my case was that a vacuum line on the part micro cracked and let air and water into the transducer (electric component on sensor) and basically fried it. Now what that did was not make the air to fuel mixture change to proper idle setting ( on idle my car thought I was driving at highway speeds therefore putting to much air in the mix for it to idle or vice versa, too rich). I replaced the part (70+$ at the dealer for part) it was an extremely easy two bolt install and the new vacuum line which is dirt cheap sometimes free. I was back in business and problem went away. I just want to say don't assume it's the same part for you but vacuum leaks cause issues and cause a dominoe effect that can lead to goofy issues so check lines, sensors, and leaks. Everything has a fix and always ask a knowledgeable person for advice or for help. Good luck!

Check your muffler for blockage. Does the engine heat up? A blocked muffler will allow an engine to run but acceleration is almost impossible.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Check all hoses and if they are good may be a manifold gasket weeping

I have a 1993 Ford Explorer that goes into high idle when I put in gear. It does this when the engine is hot or cold.

On some cars there's a speed sensor on the clutch or transmission. That might cause an idle problem.

1994 chevy c 1500 shuts off everytime i stop

Possible TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) issue. The TPS controls idling speeds under all conditions. Although the truck may idle fine when cold, once warm, if you are encountering sputtering or stalling, the TPS could be the culprit. Other possibilities could be fouled spark plugs, bad wires, or a bad distributor cap.

I would tell you to stop guessing and throwing parts on that you dont need. First have it scanned and see if there are any trouble codes. you need to replace the ALL the spark plugs, Use only Motorcraft or Autolite platinum spark plugs gapped properly. . Be careful as coils are a common weak item , and are about $95 each. the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoids are common to go bad also (controls idle speed)

1997 2L mondeo LPG conversion when idle revs go up then down sounds like it is going to cut out but switch to petrol idle ok

Is you're Check engine light on? It could be cause you're TPS needs To be checked. Spark plugs/ wires/ Coils, , Vacuum hose lines are losing air from a cracked hose or lose one.

Does the car Shake? Fuel Injector's. Fuel Pump, Fuel lines, Etc.......

Are you runing you're AIR? It could just be causeing the motor to work alittle bit harder and droping the Rpms and kicking back up,

Good Luck ..

Rough idle(200-300RPM)off idle runs great no white smoke

Have you changed your fast idle valve or air idel control valve I would change the air idle valve because it is the one with an electric sensor.

The advice that the garage gave you seems right. If any bushes were worn they would show up on the MOT Test. Try taking it to another garage to check out the Cat for your peace of mind.

Stalling automatic

You need to clean the throttle body and idle air bypass valve with spray carb cleaner, hold the idle high while you do this as the engine will try to stall, disconnect battery when done for 5 minutes then reconnect and drive a few days to relearn idle strategy.
