Question about 2000 GMC Jimmy

Please help!!! i got a 2000 jimmy 4x4, just put new brake line from front to back, oil coming out of the 2 front bleeders but the problem is the 2 back bleeders wont bleed much, no pressure!!! Banjo bolts, do they need 2 cooper washers or just one?? oil is getting to the line were it connects to the caliper but when we want to bleed, nothing comes out!! Please help

You should have a crush washer on each side of the banjo bolt. You may be loosing your pressure to everything else by all the brake fluid leaking. You may have to go through the motions a few times before you see the fluid come out of the rear.

How do i build pressure to front brakes after replacing all the brake lines and bleeding them several times.


First off this is really a 2 person job. You need to make sure there are no air bubbles trapped inside the brake lines. Connect a tube to the bleeder valve and submerse the end of that tube under a container of brake fluid.... As you push down on your pedal you should see bubbles coming out of the tube. Keeping pumping on the brake pedal until no more bubbles come out.

2000 Chev Silverado 2500, Brake lines rusted and cracked loosing all fluid. replaced all lines. Got front to bleed sucessfully, but no oil to back brakes. what do I have to do to bleed back brakes?


Try opening a front bleeder and depress the pedal ALL the way,should feel a light "tic" as it reaches the bottom,close the bleeder and try to bleed the rear again,but instead of pumping ,just take the master cover off ,open the rear bleeders and wait 10 min or so for the fluid to gravity bleed out the air. Thinking the proportioning valve is tripped so no fluid is allowed to reach the rear,opening the front should reset the valve . If there is alot of air the valve will just trip again if you pump the pedal,hence the gravity bleed.

Changed the rear end of 1989 Suburban (4 wheel drive). Put on new brake lines for the rear brakes. The brake pedal is hard. There is no brake fluid going to the rear brakes and the front brakes seem to...


It has to be your proportioning valve, and it is probably jammed and blocking flow to the rear. You can either replace the valve or try to reset it. To reset, you need a way to put pressure into the rear brake exit port. If the valve has bleeder screws on it, try opening the front bleeder and pumping the pedal. If there is no bleeder on the valve, I have also heard of people opening the front caliper bleeders and pumping the brake to see if a little pressure in the rear will slide the piston open. No harm in trying these ideas before buying a new one, eh.

Hi Friend:

#1) Break Loose your Lug Nuts,Just A Little don't Take-them off yet.

#2) Jack Front end off the Ground,Support with Good jack stands,Keep Truck in Park and Emergency brake Applied.

#3) Now Take off your Front Wheels-Tires.

#4) Now on the Inside of your brake rotor on each side,there are 2-Caliper mounting bolts. Allen Bolts 3/8" Allen Socket or Allen Wrench.Break the 2-Bolts loose and Remove them.

#5) Now after the Caliper Bolts are removed ,Loosen the Brake Line going to the Calipers using a Flare wrench.You'll need to have a Drain Pan handy to Catch the Brake Fluid.

#6) Now you'll need a C Clamp ,to compress the caliper piston back in the Caliper. NOTE: before you compress the Caliper pistons ,take off the master cylinder cover and using a suction bulb remove about 1/2 of the fluid from the Front Resevoir.the larger of the two.

#7) Now placing the C-Clamp over the Caliper housing turn it clockwise to compress the Piston all the way in.

#8) now you can remove your caliper and the pads,same for Both Sides. AND remove your Rotors they are held on by the Calipers and your Lug-Nuts.It Should come right off ,if its a little rusted and Stubborn take a Plastic Headed Hammer and Tap it all around the Old Rotor.Until it comes off.

#9) Now Slide your new Rotors on the HUB and over the lug nuts.

#10) Get your new caliper Making sure you have the Correct Caliper its Marked Left or Right Sides. It will only work on the Side its made for.

#11) Now put your Anti Rattel Clips on the Correct Sides(Inside) that fit into the New Caiper Piston.also use some brake lube on the back on the new brake pads where they touch the caiper housing.

#12) With both pads in the Caliper Slide the Caliper over your New Rotor. This is for both sides.

#13) Put your brake line back on using the new brass washers that came with your rotors/or Caipers.

#14) Now Put your Caliper Mounting bolts in and tighten up to 38 Foot Lbs.

#15) When you have both sides done Fill up your master Cylinder about a 1/4 " from top.

16) Now you'll need to bleed them ,Get a Friend and have them Slowly push the brake pedal down,after he says its down you open the bleeder valve until fluid and air come out==Now tighten it back before your friend raises his foot up off the pedal.During bleeding keep checking your Master Cylinder to keep it full of fluid.

#17) Start your bleeding from the Right Rear to Left Rear to Right Front and Last Left Front. Always bleed from the farthest brake or Wheel from the Master Cylinder and work your way to the Master.

#18) After you have No air coming out of the bleeder valve and you do have good clean brake fluid.Your Done Bleeding;You should have a Good tight and High Brake Pedal. NOTE: you DON't start the Truck to bleed the brakes.

#19) Now just Put your Tires back on and Tighten your Lug Nuts and you should have good Brakes.

I'm sure that this will get you good brakes and on the Road Again.

My abs & brake lights go on & off brake pedal seems soft brake fluid - ok, no leaks, has new brake lines, slamming on the brakes locks 'em up. no abs, right? 2000 gmc jimmy 4.3


Sounds like you might have air in the brake system. You will need to bleed the brakes to remove air. Start with the passenger back wheel. use a small hose and submerge the end in a glass bottle filled 1/3 full of brake fluid. The other end goes on the nipple of the brake bleeder. Have someone pump the brakes and then hold the pedal down then loosen the bleeder. then tighten the bleeder. you should see bubbles in the brake fluid. Keep repeating this procedure until you see no bubbles. You might have to put as much as 1 quart of brake fluid thru each wheel to remove air. Then you do the driver side rear followed bypassenger side front and finally driver side front

How do I bleed the brakes. I just bought my jimmy from my boyfriends parents, and dummy me didnt check the brake fluid, until now. I replaced the fluid as it was very low, now the pedal goes to floor.


This is not something you can do yourself. you will need an assistant.
Each wheel will need to be done.

Jack up the vehicle and support it safely.

Remove the tire.

Locate the bleeder device on the top of the caliper.

Attach a length of hose from the bleeder valve into a bucket.

Fill the brake fluid reservoir.

Loosen the bleeder valve (approximately 1/4 turn) and have your assistant push the brake pedal.

If no fluid comes out - loosen the bleeder valve until fluid starts coming out.

Once fluid stops coming out... tighten the bleeder back and have your assistant let the brake pedal up

Tell the assistant to press down slowly to the floor... and loosen the bleeder again.

Once the pedal is to the floor - and fluid stops coming out - re- tighten the valve.

Repeat until only fluid comes out - no bubbles.

If after all 4 tires are done, and there is still sponginess in the pedal, it is likely a more sever problem like the master cylinder, equalizer, or booster.

Most chain shops (Midas, Sears, etc) offer a free inspection service, and if it is simply air in the lines can bleed the system for you for under $35. (well worth it)

It will take you approximately 2-3 hours if you have never done it before (assumed because you dont know how) and they can do it with a bleeder machine in less than 1.

Bad oil leak driver side front fender


There is an adapter for the oil filter with 2 lines coming out of it above the drive shaft from the transfer case to the front differential. The O ring on these will go sometimes causing loss of oil. Also check the 2 lines for leaks and cracks.

Having trouble bleeding brakes on my ford f150 4x4 i had to put a new caliper on left front.i bled the front brakes but still cant gmuch of a pedal.is  there a switch or valve i need to turn off so...


1 Siphon off the old brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir under the hood.
2 Fill the reservoir with new brake fluid (don't reuse old fluid as it holds moisture and will corrode your brake system).

3 Start with the brake farthest from the Master cylinder, usually rear wheel, passenger side. Pull off the rubber cover on the bleeder valve. Attach the aquarium air line to the nipple on the bleeder.

4 Have your assistant pump the brake pedal up and down 3-4 times, then hold the pedal down fairly hard.
5 Open the bleeder, let fluid flow out through the air line into a waste container. (preferrably a clear bottle so you can see any air bubbles escaping the system). When the fluid stops and your assistant's foot hits the firewall (brake pedal all the way down), close the bleeder valve immediately!
6 Go to step #4 above and drain more fluid out of the bleeder valve until clean fluid comes out. Check the master cylinder every time and top it up as necessary. This procedure uses lots of fluid.

7 Now move to the rear brake on the driver's side. Go to step #4 and repeat the same procedures above until clean fluid comes out of the bleeder valve and no bubbles.
8 Next is the front brake, passenger side, same procedure. Then the drivers side and the same procedure.
9 When finished check for any leaks, remount rubber covers on the bleeder valve nipples. Remount all wheels, re-torque lug nuts after 50-100 miles of driving.
10 Start vehicle and depress the brake pedal. It should feel much less spongy than before this procedure. If not, there is air in the system, start over. Bleed everything again.
Note: if you assistant releases the brake pedal before you can close the bleeder valve then air will be introduced into the brake lines. This is no good! Before you start tell your assistant you will tell him/her PUMP, HOLD DOWN, RELEASE commands.

That's it, you're done. Congratulate yourself on saving some cash instead of handing it over to a mechanic.

How do i properly bleed out my Jimmy?


I use a vacuum bleeder (abt $35) starting at the furthest brake line from the master cylinder & working my way back to the closest. If bled properly by keeping the maste cylinder full, this should solve your problem. Rick

Did you happen to replace the calipers?? If so, you may have gotten the calipers installed on the wrong side. The bleeder valves should be pointed up. Another thing for you to check is have an assistant pump up the brake pedal and hold them. While they're being held down, crack open one of the lines on the master cylinder to make sure you have fluid squirting out. If not, your master cylinder is bad.
