Programming a 2006 Pontiac Gran Prix Keyless remote

I have programmed my 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix remotes without going to dealer. Cadilac dealer could not for some reason, but I was able to. I don't know if your Olds is similar.

Hello: You need a scanner to program a remote. A GM Tech 2 will do it. Some upper scale scan tools might be able to do it also, you will just have to ask your independent shop.

must take FOBs to dealer for programming.... there is no other way and it's cheap (you can take any number of FOBs and it's still a flat rate (~$40)

This has to be taken to the dealership. The tech will hook up their IDS computer to the car to pull the code. Once they have the code they can then access and re-program the keyless remote.

GM FOBS cannot be reprogrammed at home...Dealer ($90-125) or go to a local car stereo shop and get their new keyless entry installed ($89)

There is no onboard programming procedure for this vehicle. This vehicle requires special equipment be connected to the vehicle to program the keyless remote. Please go to the nearest GM dealer for assistance

If the remote is generic you will need the factory remote to "clone" the signal to the new remote.

With your oem pontiac remote you may need to visit any GM service center to have the remote set to the cars receiver. There are literally 100,000 different variables GM uses to ensure one remote can't work the wrong car. A typical key programming will run you between $30-$60 depending on how much greed the technician has. Some good technicians will do this job for free simply to make a customer happy so you may wish to call around.

Yes...

1) Remove the "MALL PGM" fuse located in the glove compartment (see owners manul for location)

2) Turn ignition switch to "Accessory" then "Off" then back to "Accessory" witin 1 second. (accessory is opposite the forward direction key is normally turned for starting the vehicle)

3) Plug in drivers side seat belt.

4) Open and close a door (will hear a chime indicating in program mode.)

5) Press and hold both the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the Fob and wait at least 7 seconds (may take longer) you'll hear a chirp or the horn will sound.

6) repeat step 5 for all other Fobs.

7) turn key to Off and replace fuse.
