Automatic three speed 3L80 OR 3L80-HD or a four speed 4L60, 4L60-E or 4L80-E. You can have the VIN # checked at a Chevy/GM dealer to be sure which one it is. There are also numbers (may be on a nameplate/tag) on the trans, but difficult to see when in the vehicle.

87 gmc sub runs for a while then dies

I had a 99 Suburban that did almost the same thing, it turned out to be the Catyletic Converters were plugged. Try taking the exhaust pipe loose at the manifold for test purposes. If it runs good with the pipes loose, that's the problem. Replace the Cat's. There were no codes for either, it would start and run nice for about 5 seconds, then run rough and then stall.

Wiring a STARTER I A 87 SUBURBAN

I presume the two leads you mention are:-
a) very heavy main +12V power lead from the battery terminal with approx 3/8" eyelug terminal,
b) less heavy wire that connects battery power to main vehicle fusebox for power distrubution- this cable may incorporate a fusible link.
The two leads (as above) connect onto the same heavy duty 3/8" terminal on the starter motor.
The lower 3/8" power post (closest to the motor housing) connects only to the starter motor and should not normally be tampered with.
There should be one more light duty wire that operates the starter motor engage solenoid .- This is connected back to the ignition switch 'Start' +12V control output.

My 1994 gmc suburban started leaking transmission fluid on the passengers side now it wont go over 30 mph

You need to find the leak (probably in one of the cooler lines or the pan gasket) fix it, and make sure you have the correct fluid level. If you do all that and it still won't go you probably wore out the internal components from driving it with low fluid. Good luck.

Need to put a new tranny in my suburban,95' 2 wheel drive

Your suburban should have a 4L60E transmission if it a 1/2 ton C1500. Mine is a 4 wheel drive, but it is the same transmission except for the tail shaft to accomodate the transfer case. The 3/4 ton trucks came with a 4L80E.
