Power steering car is hard to steer sometimes ,like power steering isn't working. power steering pump has been replaced

Same situation on an 89 G20 van. Replaced pump - worked fine for 2000 mi. Then a loud pop and steering went suddenly. Pump is working. There is some slight leakage at the gear box. It is equally hard to move the tires with engine on or off while the front end is off the ground. Is it a bad box or something else?

Support front wheels off ground. Chock rear tires, get an assistant for safty. Start engine (do not put in gear) step outside of car and manually turn wheels left and right by hand. Cut off engine. Turn key back to release steering lock. Manually turn wheels by hand again. If it requires the same ammount of strength to turn wheels, then Rack and Pinion is bypassing internally. Solution... replace rack & pinion.

Hard steering

The pump may not be working as and is now under stress caused sometimes by the power steering pipes braking down on the inside of the pipe. You will have to replace the pump and check the pipes from the power steering pump.

2001 ford explorer steering is acting up, i checked the fluid

If it sticks in one direction or the other like the steering isn't power, then the rack is defective and you will need to replace it and flush the system, if it is hard to turn all the time the pump may be the problem. have a tire shop tech ( THEY ARE GOOD WITH STEERING ISSUES) check it out before replacing any parts.

Power steering leak

replacing a line wouldnt be to hard, neither would replacing the whole pump, which is probably what you will have to do. If you checked it and it was dry then there has, more than likely been damage done to the pump. The biggest problem with your situation isn't really difficulty of the job but more the cost of replacement parts. I can't say for sure on your vehicle but pumps can get pretty pricey for some cars. Good luck on your fix.

How to fix 2002 toyota camry hard steering

Check the power steering fluid levels. Also the pump may need replacing if it isn't delivering enough hydraulic pressure to the steering box. Be sure to lube all the steering components on the chassis if possible.

1995 lexus power steering problems leaking hard to turn smoke

If the power steering pump is smoking and leaking, and isn't doing the job anymore, you've pushed it too long without keeping the fluid level up. I'd say you're stuck with having to replace it.

I have a 325i 2001 . power steering keeps going out

either the belt is slipping, or the pump is going out, check the fluid level,, sometimes it feels like the steering is hard due to the idle settings on the vehicle being to low, which makes the pump turn slower which makes it seem as though the pump isn't working correctly,,
