Intermittent Starting Problem

Brand New 2008 Jeep Commander Overland - On occassion my brand new Commander will just not start on the initial attempt but usually after the 2nd or 3rd. The truck has been back to the dealership off and on for weeks now and they are unable to reproduce the problem and the OBD II system does not display any trouble codes. A month prior to this now frequent issue the truck "stalled" (went completely dead) on my wife while she was driving my daughter back from a Pediatricians appointment. The dealership stated that the "Stalling" issue was fixed from a software update issued by a recent TSB.

I've been researching the "no starting" issue and have discovered that several Commander owners across the country are experiencing my issue as well and unfortunately they are getting the same response from their dealerships.

Does anyone anywhere have any explaination or solution to this problem or are you a Commander owner going through this issue?

Our Commander stalled while my wife was driving around a roundabout, it started straight away and took it back to the dealer, and they found an earth problem.

I have this same problem with my 2006 Commander. It occassionally just will not start. If I turn the key over and over again, it usually will eventually start. The dealer cannot replicate the problem. I am looking for any advice too.

My 2007 Commander never stalled while running, but every couple weeks would fail to start. Turn the key and nothing would happen. After a couple hours or overnight it would always start again with no errors recorded. First time they replaced the shift box (auto) thinking the system was not showing in park. Second time they did nothing. Third time they replaced the keys and fob module thinking it wasn't being recognized. Fourth time it finally wouldn't start at the dealer either and they replaced the starter. So far so good and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Dave

I had the exact same problem with my 06 Commander and it turned out to be the starter. The mechanics at my dealer(Farrish in Fairfax VA) diagnosed it in a short period of time and gave me a new starter under warranty, problem solved.

2006 jeep commander makes a clicking noise when I turn ignition, all lights and radio come on but car won't turnover, what is it?

I have had this issue 2 times, both times it was the battery having damaged/dead cells. You can sometimes get it to start by putting your foot on the break, turning the key to the on position, putting the car in neutral then starting it. I purchased my Commander new in 2006 and have had to replace the battery 2 times since, both times this was the initial symptom. I have 120K miles and still love my Commander
