Question about 1988 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

Brake light switch 88 jeep wrangler

I keep having to mess with it to make the brake lights work, not sure if it keep blowing or what , i am wondering if I have it on correctly. i have replaced it twice before. seems like it doesnt fit properly and keeps getting pinched where its at. yesterday i decided to strip the wires and replace the plug that goes into the switch itself, but it still seems like unless its put on so loose that the bolt wants to come off it doesnt work properly. what else can i do other than trying to replace it again?

I replaced the switch as well and it still does not work properly. Does the master cyclinder pushrod actually activate the swith when you depress the pedal? I jumpered the wires that plug into the switch and the brake lights come on. Thanks, Dirk

Bend the bracket that the switch mounts to back so you can tighten the nut all they way and adjust the switch properly, otherwise there may be a stopper bolt thru the pedal bracket that adjusts the travel of the pedal good luck and please rate -jeff

2001 jeep wrangler. Brake lights won't work but

Check the brake control switch situated just above the break pedal arm under the dashboard. Could be a wire loose or unplugged or the switch itself could be faulty

I have a 2003 Jeep wrangler. All three brake lights don't work. The lights are fine because the tail lights work. I've replaced the pressure switch at the pedal with no results. Dan.

just because the tail lights work doesn't necessarily mean the bulbs are good, many brake/tail lights have multiple filaments in them, you can usually remove a bulb and tell with your naked eye if a filament has failed. Another possibility is a fuse. Are you getting power in and out of that brake light switch?

No lights work on instrutment panel

Check 2 fuses. Instument lights / panel and also the brake light fuse. Sometimes the brake light fuse blows and you have no dash lights.

1998 jeep wrangler brake lights will not work, fuse appears to be fine. How do you remove switch?

I used to have a 98 wrangler, I had a problem with the brake lights at one point and found that it was do to the blinker switch! This was a little bit of a project to replace it. Steering wheel had to come off and steering column comes off and the whole blinker switch is one piece.

All tail lights in the 98's goes through the blinker switch. I am not saying this is your issue for sure! But it sounds like it.

if the 3ed brake light works , rapidly move hazard switch back & forth & recheck, if they now work change turn signal switch , they are being canceled by switch
