Question about Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

Is this a transmission issue??

Ok, my car is a manual transmission 1977 toyota corola wagon DLX. Love the car, but it slips out of gear. I can keep it into gear if i keep pressure on the shifter, however when it is the heat of the day, and I mean like over 90*F, even with pressure on the shifter it will completely come out of gear, cant down shift into any other gear, it stalls out, and i cant get it to restart.I'm actually now wondering if it might be the alternator going out. Mainly because when I try to restart it, it acts as if it's out of gas, and I have to wait like 10-30 minutes to get it to start. Even then it will run only a few meters at best. I do know that the transmission is part of the problem, but I wonder if it is the only problem.

2006 Toyota Tundra does not do reverse gear after transmission repair

If you opened the transmission 3 times then it became useless because you would have had to put new seals in it each time. Its a slipping front or forward clutch. its a mechanical issue. Transmissions nowadays need to be torqued and lubed to the right specifications, if you are off just .00000013 on your valve body then you are screwed.

'00 Toyota 4Runner manual transmission slipping out of first gear

The problem is most likely internal. Sounds like it could be the synchronizer or maybe the gear itself. Hard to say until you take it apart and look at it. I guess a price range of around $1000-$1500 to rebuild, repair costs depend on what parts needed, cost of parts, labor/time involved.
