Question about 2001 Hyundai Sonata

2001 Hyundai Sonata

Hi,I have a 2001 Hyundai Sonata 2.4 DOHC that only has spark to 1 coilpack.(new coilpacks). It all started when I changed them.It was jumping spark from the coils to valve cover so I replaced them and it wouldn't start.I replaced the Ignition Failsafe and it started but only has 1 coil sparking.I tried several coils, wires, and plugs.I have 12 volts going to the faulty circuit but no puls to coil. The code I get from my scanner is P03050.I think it has a bad diode in the ECM or a shorted wire. When I hook a testlight to the battery and touch the pins that are suposed to puls when cranking it lights up but doesnt puls.If anyone has a suggestion I could sure use your brain. You can E-mail me at brooks1613@sbcglobal.net.Thanks Chris.

Hi , thanks for your info. The thing I don't know is where the ignition lock is. I have tried to re-install coilpacks several times but no success.Chris.

P0350 = IGNITION COIL MALFUNCTION..... Engine will not start or is hard to start. (Cranks OK)... Probable cause>remedy 1.Ignition lock switch faulty> Replace ignition lock switch 2.Ignition coil faulty> Inspect ignition coil 3.Power transistor faulty> Inspect power transistor 4.Spark plugs faulty> Replace plugs 5.Ignition wiring disconnected or broken> Inspect wiring 6.Spark plugs faulty> Replace plugs

I think that the coil packs has installed wrong because you said that the problem started when you replaced them... so i think you should re-install.

Where are my spark plugs located in my 02 Gmc envoy?

Attached is a diagram of where the plugs and coilpacks are located, you need to remove the air intake resonator box to access this area. Plugs should be changed around 100K miles. Use only AC Delco 41-103 Iridium plugs. #1 is the coilpack and #5 is the spark plug

I have a 93 Geo Tracker with 200000 miles on it. it stalled out in my driveway. we cahnged the fuel pump and the fuel filter. its getting gas but has no spark. Where do we start

4 possibilities 1 crank sensor, 2 ignition control module, 3 ECM, coil/ coilpack. Check codes first this will point you towards the right direction.
If there are no codes then go to the coil/ coilpack

Hi there bought a fiat punto 1.2 8v w reg for my son , it was not running right the 2 center pots was not fire,n so i have changed the plugs and the leads also the coil pack and theres stil no currant to...

Hi, hope by now you have solved your problem, but if not...
Firstly, the non spark on 2 and 3 makes sense, (presuming your car has a single coilpack, not four), as the pack fires in pairs, not individually, (one spark being so called "wasted")
Presuming that you haven't obtained a faulty coilpack( it has happened) the next step is to check the plug feeding the coilpack very carefully.
Two reasons for this are 1 wiring is getting thinner each year (costs), and these connectors can fail, and 2 the next step can be costly.
The coilpack is triggered usually by two outputs on the ECU, (one for each pair of coils in the pack) if one output failed it will affect two cylinders, usually 1 and 4, or 2 and 3, (see where im going?).
Ok, so here's the painfull bit, to diagnose the problem specifically, u will have to take it to a proper technition with the correct gear (not a bloke with a halfords scanner) that will cost, if it IS a faulty ECU, that will be more costly.
An ECU is usually paired with the car immobiliser and is specific to that one car, so you cant use one from a scrapyard without changing the ignition, key and immobiliser sensors, but they are repairable, not cheap, but definitly repairable.
Like I said at the beginning, i hope you dont need this and your repair was easy and cheap, but if its of any help, you're welcome, H

Car sputters and no power, now it will not crank

Check the coil pack. they are common to fail and the engine will usually misfire for a while and then not start when it gets cold out. you can do a quick check by removing one plug wire at a time and having someone crank the engine. the spark should jump right down the tower the wire goes onto to the base of the coilpack. if this does not happen then you need to replace the coilpack first. take the 6 tork head screws out and remove the wiring under it that goes to the module. carefull not to mix up the wires under the coilpack or to the spark plugs. reinstall the coilpack and reinstall the plug wires and try to start the engine. i will look for a response incase you need more help. good luck.

I have a 01 Sonat 4cyl. When you first start it

Since you've already SPENT so much money, I suggest you take the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Center (dealership), pay the diagnostic fee. They will tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.). This way you'll know what's needed and perhaps fix it yourself.
