I just had to replace the head gaskets. got it shaved and pressure cheaked etc. pulled the emmisons **** off put on a webber carb. new plugs wires dist.cap roter fuel pump etc. adjusted the timing ran fine for about 2 iles brought it home shut it off went back out 2 hours later now it wont hold in idle and it back fires thru the carb. please help
If it wont hold an idle then one or more of the cylinders are probably too low or high in compression and if it's backfireing then the ignition timming could be off. I would take a compressin test of all cylenders and if they are all in range I would hook up a timming light to se if the timming is out

If you are replacing the gasket, are you doing a complete head job or just the gasket? If you are only doing the gasket and not having the head resurfaced(machined), That could very well be your problem. Does the gasket blow in the same place everytime? That is why if so. If you have been resurfacing every time you replace your gasket, and its been done more than twice, you need another head. Now to answer your question, Yes, It would be very wise to replace the head bolts with new. If I remember right, that engine has stretch bolts that have a one time use only limit on them. I could be wrong but I think if you already have that much of your engine apart, might as well spend a few more bucks to make sure everything is rite.

I just put a 38 Outlaw on,the Weber instructions indicate that you may need to advance the ignition to as much as 12 BTC to compensate fro the larger primary and icrease in fuel delivered at intial acceleration.Hope this helps
