Question about 2002 Ford Thunderbird

Brake cylinder How do I push the brake brake cylinder back in (right rear) on a 2002 thunderbird. I had to replace a wheel stud and for some reason the space for the rotor is too small, and all traditional efforts to force the cylinder back have failed.

It has been over 10 yrs. since I worked on brakes. The new style requires a brake reset tool ( or the use of needle nose pliers). I got the answer on the interent (don't try to force the caliper as it might damage the brake system)and by calling O'Riely auto.

The brake drum does not fit due to the pressure in brake cylinders. Some of the cylinders are designed to keep a little pressure on, even when the pedal is released. The reason is that you will have instant reaction on pushing break pedal because there is no free space between drum and pads. You need to take clamp and push the pistons back in cylinder, but only that much so you can fit the drum. After the drum is tightened you must pump the brake pedal until you can fell that there is no free fall. The hand brake should be ok, but check it just to be shore. If there is need to tension the cable, it can be done under lever from outside the car (you must go under the car).

Okay, Sounds like you have a bad brake bleeder on the right side. Check beforehand by calling the auto parts stores to see if they carry brake bleeders. It is absolutely necessary for all lines to bleed.
There is a pattern to use when bleeding brakes. The longest rear line first, next longest rear line, then the passengers front and finally the Drivers front.
As each line is bled. the Master cylinder should be monitored for low fluid. When the rear brakes are working, you will hear the brake springs work when the brake pedal is pressed.
It is possibly to have a plugged brake line which can only be determined once the brake bleeder releases the fluid. There can be variations in the brake adjustment, so before putting on the wheel, adjust the star wheel evenly from side to side. Hang (Fit) the drum to the axle and snug up with the lug nuts. Spin the rear wheels and note that each side is evenly touching the brake linings.

How to get drum pads off a 2000 dodge caravan


The pad drums of your 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan can wear with use. Heat buildup in the brakes can glaze, warp or crack the drum. If that happens, replacement of the drum is the only way to fix it. In most cases, you can remove the rear drums, replace them with a new set and leave the existing shoes on the van. Take a minute and inspect the brake shoes thoroughly while you have the drums off the van.


  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear of your 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan with a lug wrench. Do not take them off the wheel studs.
  2. Raise the rear of the van with a jack and support it on a set of jack stands. Place the stands under the rear suspension, making sure they are secure. Remove the lug nuts from the wheel studs and pull off the rear wheels.
  3. Check the rear drum where the wheel studs come through for retaining clips. These are used during the manufacturing process; and if they are still on your van, they need to be removed. Pry the clip off the wheel stud with a flat head screwdriver and discard them. Most vehicles will have two clips on each brake drum.
  4. Grasp the brake drum on the outer edges and pull it straight off the wheel studs and brake pads. Discard the old drum and slide the new drum into place, aligning the holes in the drum with the wheel studs. Push the drum in until it seats completely. Repeat the process on the opposite side of the van.
  5. Position the wheel back on the wheel studs and install the lug nuts by hand. Raise the back of the van with a jack and remove the jack stands from under the suspension. Lower the van to the ground and tighten the lug nuts with a lug wrench.

I just replaced my master cylinder on my 1994 ford thunderbird LX with a 4.6L V8. But my brake pedal is still going down to the floor board. What could be the cause of that?


you've bled the lines from back to front, and bled the master cylinder/ It sounds like air in the lines, so you should be able to get streams of fluid with no air at all bleeder screws-start from the furthest away from the master cylinder, to the closest, then do the master cylinder. If that doesn't work, you must have a broken line or a leaking caliper or wheel cylinder.

How to change broken stud on rear axle 1997 ford explorer


I am assuming you are talking about a wheel lug stud. The lug studs are pressed in from the inner side of the drum or rotor or axle flange depending on how your vehicle is equipped. You have to remove the wheel and drum or rotor to get access to the back side. Drive the broken stud out from the front after you have removed the drum or rotor and set the new one in from the back and tap it into the hole until set as the rest are. If you cant get it set all the way you can finish setting it by pulling it into place when you tighten the lug nuts on reassembly. The part should be under $10.00

Try to bleed your brakes again or you may need to look at the Master Cylinder, it could be bad.

Install brake pads on the rear of a 2002 Ford Thunderbird


remove wheel
remove pads, they just clips on to the caliper and will pop right off with a screwdriver.
There are 2 different kinds of calipers that ford uses. on oine you will be able to take a c-clamp and force the piston back into the caliper. ON the other type you have to have a $10 tool from oriellys. This tool will hook to the backside of the caliper and turn the piston back in. ONce the piston is backed off, clip on new pads, and slide over rotor. Should be 1 pad on each side of the rotor.

there is no need to bleed the brakes unless you loosen lines which you shouldnt have to do.

Broken rear wheel stud on a 2005 ford focus zx4 se


  1. Step 1 Buy a new stud. Make sure you purchase the right size. If you're not sure what size to get, wait until you remove the stud and take it with you to the store.
  2. Step 2 Check the area of the spare tire in the trunk for the jack and the jack tools since you'll need to raise the car to replace the wheel stud on your Focus. Be sure to block the tire diagonal to the jack.
  3. Step 3 Use the jack to raise the Focus. Remove the wheel Take off the caliper and either hang it by a mechanics wire or lay it up so it doesn't dangle by the brake line. Remove the rotor. If you're working on back wheels, you have to remove the emergency brake clip first. You could have drum brakes in the rear. If they're drum brakes, remove the drum.
  4. Step 4 Hunt for an opening behind the hub that allows you to remove the stud. Line the stud up with the hole. You may have to take off the hub and put it in a vise if you can't drive it out the back.
  5. Step 5 Hit the stud with a mallet and drive it out the back of the hub. Push another stud into the opening. This is tough work, but you only need to push it far enough to thread on a wheel bolt.
  6. Step 6 Put on a wheel bolt and begin to tighten it. As you do, the stud starts to pull through. Add more bolts as necessary until you seat the stud. Check in the back of the hub. When the head is flush with the stud, you seated it.
  7. Step 7 Remove the extra bolts and reassemble the parts that you took off to replace the wheel stud on the Ford Focus. Put the wheel back on the vehicle and tighten down the wheel nuts.

Broken rear wheel stud how do i repair it


The stud has to be hammered out if you don't have the tools to do this then I suggest you take it to a tire shop they don't charge much. depending if it's front wheel or rear wheel drive will determine what has to be done. If it's a rear axle they will remove the tire and drum and knock out the old one with a hammer and punch and replace it with a new one same size, they can hammer it back in our use washers to pull it into place this is the same on the front wheel. You will need to measure the bolt to get the right length and width. tire shop will have the stud you need.
