First of all, if the engine turns over, you DON'T need a starter or an ignition switch. Don't fall into the 'let's try replacing this' method of car repair! It is costly and never works.

First replace the cap cap, it is part of the pressurized fuel system and may be the answer to all the issues. $20 from Walmart, or $15 from Napa Auto Parts.

Then connect a code reader and find why that Engine Light comes on. Your vehicle has a computer that records everything that is wrong with it. A cheap code reader gives you the basics, a $5,000 scan tool computer tells you everything, historically and in real time as the vehicle is starting of being driven.

The other thing to check is that the battery is good. Interstate will test for you for free in the parking lot and only takes 2 minutes including the printout. I think AutoZone and Napa also does it.

The Fuel Filter is inside the Fuel Tank mounted on the pump at the bottom of the Stalk that holds the Fuel Level Sensor as well. To get to it you must remove the Fuel Tank from the car.

i see you are guessing?
did you check all engine related fuses? that be first.
with a $20 DMM volt meter , the guessing ends.
the electrics form 2 paths,
1: power
2: ground
if either are bad, the pump fails. (suzuki love to do this)

when you turn the key, the ECU/PCM , energizes
the fuel pump relay,
if you have no power to the relay the relay will be dead.
the relay then passes pump power to the pump, on the pink wire
on most suzuki's state side (no location stated)
the pink wires goes hot (12v) for 3 seconds each key on.
if not the relay is bad, or the power to it is bad or the ECU is bad.
if you lose ground to the relay , the ecu or the pump. the pump
will be dead.
using a voltmeter allows you to find this simple failure.
lets pretend the pink wire is hot.
you key on, pink goes 12v , for 3seconds but the pump is silent.
1: the pump has 2 wires , not 1.
one or the other is open.
2: if you see 12v on the pumps ground wire for 3 seconds key on.that means the pump ground is dead open.
the voltmeter will not lie to you , use it and find the problem easy.

Replace the fuel pump relay. if this doesn't work then the pump has gone bad or maybe lost ground.

REPLACE FUEL FILTER FIRST.IF IT STILL WONT CRANK.IT COULD BE FUEL PUMP RELAY OR FUEL PUMP.

Check the A/C relay under the hood near the battery. Had the same problem on my 2004 Aerio. Around $30 at the dealer.

In the fuel tank, accessed by removimg the fuel pump.

You will have to buy that tool from either the dealer or a Snap-on tool dealer.
