Question about 1995 Dodge Caravan

Front Brakes I have changed the front brakes because the passenger side was sticking. Now they are stivking again. Any Ideas? They get really hot

    here is what is happening



    I changed front breaks on both sids and the master cylinder and the right front caliper ( disc breaks ) it gets very hot I belive that is what happened to the caliper it got so hot it christelized.

Interesting, disc brakes don't normally stick. Since there is no tension pressure against the pads like drum brakes.

You indicated you replaced the right caliper and the master cylinder, but no mention of the disc or the piston (Some caliper assemblies are all in one, some are not.)

Here are some thoughts:

Disc is contaminated with oil, grease, brake fluid etc, when you brake, it is absorbed by the pad, gets hot and sticks.

You didn't replace left caliper, piston isn't working well, sending all pressure to right side.

You didn't indicate, new, used or rebuilt caliper. If used, get anew/remanufactured SET of calipers and either semi-mettalic or ceramic pads, and new rotors (I used to get rotors turned, but new replacements are now generally cheaper that turning old ones. When working with brakes I always recommend you work them as a set, regardless of how good the other side looks.

Make sure you clean the rotors with a solvent to ensure any grease or anti-rust agent is removed and dry will with several paper towels.

When installing pads, ensure you do not touch the braking surface of the pad or the rotor, body oil can contaminate too.
Make sure that the siding surface of the caliper is lubricatred with silicone grease designed for calipers (little packets are available at your parts store) On my GM Cars, it is the bolts that mount the caliper, but this varies by caliper design

Yes.
I have had this problem with several vehicles.
The first cure was new rubber hoses to the calipers, as the old ones, (only 5 years old from the factory) were collapsing inside, and not allowing the brake fluid to return toward the master cylinder.
The second was sticking pistons inside the caliper.
Your Bronco is old enough to warrant a really close inspection of the left front caliper, sounds like the piston is sticking, from rust, dirt, corrosion, or over-extension.
(Over-extension is where the pads wore down so far the piston extended too far out or the caliper bore to retract when the brakes were released.)

First you must look closely at the caliper and determine if it is sticking on the slide or is the piston sticking. If it is the piston you would have to rebuild the caliper or replace the caliper. If it is the slides, you need to sand and clean all the slide contacts and lube the slide with lithium grease or never seize grease. Then you can reinstall the caliper and you will be fine. Also when checking if the piston is sticking try loosening the line and see if it retracts, if it does you may have a bad flex hose going to the caliper holding pressure on the caliper.

Front brakes lock up causing hot and smoking front brakes.


This sounds like the master cylinder isnt releasing pressure I would change master cylinder.

your rear hub seals are leaking, which leak grease/hub fluid in to the drums which will make them stick.

Front Brakes


You may have this problem due to contaminated (and overheated) brake fluid. Most people don't usually flush out the brake system, which should be done whenever u do a brake job. Since yours are overheating also, that has to be diminishing the life of the fluid. Brake fluid will also absorb moisture (which is one reason u see instructions to use brake fluid from 'a sealed container.') So, be sure to thoroughly flush the system when u replace components this time, the contaminated fluid has been causing the calipers to 'drag' which wears out the brake pads prematurely.
