Question about 2000 Honda Accord

1 Answer

02 sensor My check engine light came on, I took it to a local shop that ran a diagnostic. They said it was an 02 sensor, needed more specifics to take it to honda. I did that Honda dealer wanted 356.00 to repair, 100.00 of which was diagnostics. I decided to have my local shop put the 02 sensor in, and when I went to pick up the car the check engine light is still on even though, they cleared the ecm, and replaced the 02 sensor. The same code is there P1166 A/F sensor heater circuit. I'm not sure what to do. Should I take it back to Honda and have them put another 02 sensor in or should they run diagnostics again. Please help.

Engine light on and burning to much gas and running very rough

You need to get it to a dealer or other shop that has the diagnostic tools to accuratly diagnose the issue. You will spend more money guesing at parts than you will at getting the test ran. If you get a clear answer from the dealer come back and we can help you with any questions you have about what they said or how to make the repair, but trying to guess at your problem is not the way to go, there are too many things that can be the issue for anyone to give you a correct answer with out a diagnostic check.

Engine light is on took it in for a diagnostic and the shop said it was an 02 sensor. is there any way to tell which one is faulty (top or bottom) , apparently the diagnostic didnt say which one it is. is...

Try to retrieve the actual code by using a code scanner. Usually when the code definition is "Bank 1 Sensor 1" --- this is the upstream oxygen sensor closest to the engine bank with cylinder no. 1 on it. If the engine is a "V-6" , you might get "bank 2" for the side of the engine opposite cylinder no. 1.

"Sensor 2" on the other hand, indicates the downstream oxygen sensor; or the one after the catalytic converter.

I hope this helped,

Have a great day !!!

The diagnostics module does not work. When my check engine light came on I took it several places but there was no power. All fuses are good and triple checked. I took it to a shop 3 weeks ago they ran...

the cigar lighter fuse usually powers the scan tool. If the light is on, take it back to the shop that did the gas cap repairs. there may be more to the leak than the gas cap.

Check engine light comes on because engine computer has detected a fault. It could be anything, from a cheap sensor to an important component out of specifications, to a service reminder. Most shops (not necessarily Honda dealers, ) have the diagnostic equipment to hook it up to your car and tell you what is wrong, before fixing anything. Usual rates for this diagnostic is below $100, including quote for repair.

Check light has illuminated on dash board

HI. This will require you to have the engine CPU scanned for trouble code's. This can only be administered with the assistance of a diagnostic computer scan tool. You can purchase this tool, at your local auto parts store, or you can just have the scan ran at your local auto zone parts store, free of charge. Once the diagnostic scan is administered, you will be able to isolate the issues that have caused the check engine light to illuminate.

This scan tool will display a print out code and the location of the issue, on the engine, as well. There are Many issues that will cause the engine light to illuminate, but the most common cause will be a failed monitoring sensor, or sensor harness failer(seperated power wire, or ground).

Once you have the codes, kindly return to the site, and post them here. We will be able to assist with more accuracy, once the codes are posted.

O2 Sensor

not very, but I own an 04 envoy, same engine light troubles, figured it was the o2 sensor, so I took it to my mechanic to have him tell me which sensor, so I could replace it.  Turns out the sensors are fine, but the secondary air pump is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.  This is apparently a very common problem with this car, and I would suggest having a diagnostic ran before replacing anything, and besides, if it was an 02 sensor, there are 3 or 4 of them on the envoy and you need to know which one is failing anyway, and only a diagnostic can tell you that.
