Oxygen sensor clean up ?

Hello,
I have Maxima 2000 and it has 160 K, The light "check engine soon" is on for a while. I comes up and in a couple months goes away. Today I went to get a sticker. Before that I disconnected battery ( I thought that way my 'light' will go away ) and definitely 'light' is off. But I was rejected at inspection because they couldn't check car's computer ( after battery disconnecting ) and said me to come in a week. I'm suspicious that 'light' will come up again sooner than I'll go back to them.
My questions:
1. How could I temporarily "trick" the 'light' ?
2. Will using fuel injection system cleaning or other additives help in my situation?
3. May I remove and clean oxygen sensor? ( If 'yes' .. how can I do ? )
4. Any other work around would be helpful because I can't spend much money on 8 year old car.
Thanks in advance.

The check engine soon can refer to a loose or missing fuel cap. The computer checks the tank pressure, and should see it go down when running. If the cap is the case, the light should go out after about 10 starts. The Oxygen sensor cannot be cleaned, and should be replace every 80K miles or so. Running on a degraded sensor makes your fuel mileage worse. Most Pep Boys locations can read the code and tell you the exact cause for that light.

The air intake depends is it before or after the mass air flow sensor. and for the check engine light your cant trick your ecm you will just have to fix the problem by geting the code off the computer but i wont tell you the exact cause.

Toyota Vitz 2007, 1.0 L, check engine light comes on at 100 km/h and goes off after turning off engine but comes back again at high acceleration like 100 km/h. change oxygen sensor as well.

That code is actually due to the fuel pressure being too low and causing a lean condition that the oxygen sensor picks up. It is common in that vehicle. Check the fuel pump pressure, filters etc.

Service engine soon light comes on and off

oxygen sensors are not serviced by mileage on newer models. When the sensor starts to fail, the "check engine" light will go on. Pulling codes will indicate problem areas. On a good running engine, you may never have to replace the O2 sensor,

P0159 is what the read out tells me. Just what do I need to do about this? I turned off the 'Check Engine Light' and it's still off after 2 days. But......!!!

What does that mean? This involves the rear oxygen sensor on the passenger side. This code indicates the engine air fuel ratio is not being adjusted by the oxygen sensor signal or the ECM as expected to do so, or not adjusted as often as expected to do so once the engine is warmed or under normal engine use.

Symptoms You will likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms.
Causes A code P0159 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The oxygen sensor is faulty
  • The wiring to the sensor is broken / frayed
  • There is an exhaust leak
Possible Solutions The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If the code comes back, the problem is more than likely the rear passenger side oxygen sensor. You will likely wind up replacing it but you should also consider these possible solutions:
  • Check and fix any exhaust leaks
  • Check for wiring problems (shorted, frayed wires)
  • Check the frequency and amplitude of the oxygen sensor (advanced)
  • Check for a deteriorating / contaminated oxygen sensor, replace if necessary
  • Check for inlet air leaks
  • Check the MAF sensor for proper operation

It should be close to the muffler. You can change it however the engine must be warmed up in order to remove the sensor. If you change it make sure you use anti seeing commpound when you replace the sensor. Prices vary from $15.00 to $100.00. Check with auto store for price. Might get a better deal on Ebay.

2004 Maxima Se codes P0037 and P0057. It says Oxygen Sensor Bank 1. How do I locate this and how can I have it changed, it affects my car and it makes the 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' indicate come up

the oxygen sensor looks like a spark plug with wires coming out of the top of it. it is screwed into the exhaust pipe near the engine. disconnect the wires and screw it out of the exhaust pipe turning it counterclockwise then screw the new one in and connect the wires. then clear the codes. one word of warning this is one of the most common codes and does not necessarily mean the sensor is bad. often it will appear if the engine is running too rich or lean because of another problem.
