Power door locks not working

When using the switches on the doors or the remote the door locks move a little bit but do not work

Hey hows things goin there here in canada we are use to that problem it happens on all our cars and trucks because they use alot of salt on the roads in the winter this causes the power windows and door locks to get rusty and stiff causing them to fail . this is the same problem that you are experiencing now if your careful remove the inside door panel and find door lock mechanism use some wd40 to spray onto mechanism work the lock with your hand until it loosens up use the door key if its easier to handle but go slow and steady at first until wd40 gets into stiff area once its feeling better then buy some rust inhibitor spray and soak the same parts inside door to protect forever go at it and good luck do take care not to break key off in lock ok bye for now

2002 Cadi Deville, can't get any locks to operate with remote or dash push buttons, the remote operates everthing but the locks! When the remote door lock is pressed, lites flash,horn blows locks not.


Power Door Lock Operation
The vehicle is equipped with power door locks. Each lock actuator is powered and controlled by the door module mounted in the individual door, but the rear integration module (RIM), which is the master control for the door lock system, determines when the lock functions are permitted. The RIM receives and examines the requested lock function from the individual door modules, or from the remote function actuator (RFA) via the class 2 serial data circuit. The RIM also examines the transmission shift selector position and the ignition switch position information available over the Class 2 serial data circuits. If the RIM determines that a lock or unlock function is permitted, it sends a class 2 message back to the individual door modules commanding them to perform that Lock or Unlock function.

Xj8 door lock


You need to replace the lock actuator in the doors that are not locking/unlocking with the door switch/remote. If the remote works for most of the doors then it is fine. The actuator is what moves the lock when it gets the signal from the remote or door switch to move it.

Power door lock switch?


Sounds like the drivers door lock switch is bad an as far as the auto start remote the contacts under the button get dirty and won't make contact, open the remote like changing the battery and you can probably get at the contact button, if it's a little carbon button they can be cleaned with a pencil eraser and then paper tower with a bit of rubbing alcohol, if it's an actual switch you can try spraying some contact cleaner into the switch. let it dry before you put the battery back in.

Driver side door lock won't open or lock using remote.


if it moves even a little bit when the button is pushed it wont be a fuse issue, you more than likely have a weak door lock actuator

2000 Astro van - drivers window only goes up a in increments


The motor is shot. It works a little and overheats, replace the motor . Same thing the the lock acuators. The are trying but have lost the power to move the locks. May as well replace them while the door is apart.

Power door locks; unlock but not lock.


replace switch. if problem on all doors replace master on driver side door. switch has two modes: lock & unlock. Unlock is working, lock is not working, means power is good, individual switches are good, master switch is bad. Replace from used car fine.

Unfortunately, This is a very common problem with Ford Explorers! Ford replaces the locks when it encounters this issue. I managed to unseize my passanger door and tailgate lock, but the drivers door lock is broken beyond repair. You can purchase new remotes for your explorer and program them very easily. Just google ford key fobs...

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee driver side power windows do not work


I had the same problem with now power to windows, mirrors and seat. The common soulution is the orange and or black wire in the boot have broken between the door and post.

If remote locks and unlocks driver door but does not unlock passenger doors,then follow the advice above:
Get in the car using the key to unlock the doors. From the passenger side lock and unlock your doors using the button on the passenger door. Get out and the remote should now unlock all the doors with 2 presses.
Worked perfectly for me after several other suggestions (and dealer) failed.

the other locks work correctly.

quick fix is to clean the contacts that the door makes when you close it. there are contacts on the door pillar (probably look like little copper circles) on the door itself there will be some spring loaded contacts... make sure they work freely and are clean.
