Question about Volkswagen Beetle
I have a 1974 vw bug and i think there may be a problem with the wiring but cannot find any specific way to fix it. the symptoms are that it sometimes does not stay started. when i turn it over sometimes the key will not stay turned and the car will shut off. very hit or miss... my brake lights stay on when my headlights are on. but they work fine when they are off. and when i am driving sometimes when i use a turn sygnal the car will shut off and not want to restart? any info would be a help this is kicking my ****... thanks in advance.
Start with the most simple thing before trying to replace anything. Clean both connections on both positive and negative side of the battery terminals AND the leads. You may then proceed to putting some graphite powder into the key slot of the ignition, working it back and forth a little. NOW trouble shoot malfunctions in and around the ignition and fuse box. Sometimes the fuses are not tight and wiggle about too, try tightening the little clamp on each of the fuse holders.

Have you tried replacing you ignition switch? atleast do a jump and bypass the switch. at first just min power to run then add the lights... ect. I think that its in the switch because the car is dying and will not restart. let me know MrRodneyLong@gmail.com
