Hi Mike, You mentioned the turn signal switch can cause burning plastic smell from under the hood (12 years ago on a Chevy)
I drive a 2005 Acura MDX Touring 4D SUV. Two weeks ago, I noticed a light flickering behind the VTM-4 button. At a stop light, I turned on the left blinker and it wouldn't stop blinking.
An hour before, my SUV would not start. When I turned the steering wheel slightly right, the car finally started. I was performing deliveries, so I couldn't take a chance for the car not to start again. Therefore, I just kept the car running to finish my shift.
When the blinker would not shut off, I had to end my shift. Once I arrived home, I just parked the car: The left blinker continued to blink. I tried to start the car again and it just clinked along with the blinking left turn signal.
The next morning, I attempted to start the car again. After a few unsuccessful attempts, I turned the steering wheel slightly right and it started. However, the left blinker remained on.
I tried to start the car once again and only heard clicking. All of a sudden, I smelled a burning plastic smell and a small amount of smoke came from under the hood.
I was thinking about pulling the fuse to the turn signal. I've had past challenges with starting the car and the VTM-4 and engine light light on. OBD codes produced a Bay 2 Sensor 2 O2 sensor. In the past, my left fog light got knocked off and the connectors are exposed.
Would greatly appreciate your expert advice on what I can do to start this car up and to cancel out the left turn signal. Thank you for your time.
There is probable nothing wrong as several cars beep when the cars are locked. It is to let you know that the car is locked If you have a door not properly closed it won't lock and therefore will not beep.. Just a reminder that the system is secure.. My car dosen't beep but instead if lashes the park light twice on lock and once on unlock
Hi,
Looks like the blinker relay needs to be replace!
It blinks once and stop, means the relay bi metal is burned and have to be replace.
hope that helps you out!
It is entirely possible that you have more than one issue.Perhaps you could fill me in as to whether the tail lamp issue and the turn signal issue occurred at the same time. For now a cheap remedy would be to replace the turn signal flasher as that is likely for the turn signals not remaining on. Let me know if this works....after this further diagnostics will be required.
it's quite hard to understand your situation, please give more details.
is your car manual or automatic?
maybe you forget to shift to neutral and you release the clutch?
i know it's a long-shot, but it could probably be a reason.
