Temperature sender The alternater light comes on when the temperature sender is connected. On first turn of key the gauge moves into the red and does not return when the starter is engaged and engine starts lighting the alternater warning. disconnect the sender and follow the same procedure and the needle returns when started. The sender was changed because the unit fell to pieces

Thanks for advice will check this.

The fault was not apparent when the old unit was fitted, and the sender is a new genuine ford part. Could you inform me if the sender is normally open or closed

    Hi

Same fault . Traced positive (white /red tracer) wire from temp sender back to a black plug in front of left headlight . found connector to be burnt repair connector still have same problem. from the plug at the headlight the wire changes to a (blue wire with a black tracer ) that runs to the alternator.

the blue wire has alternator voltage with temp sender disconnected alternator charges Connect temp sender alternator stops charging

Do I need to change the alternator?

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks

    Chris

Sounds like a short in sender or wiring. A short to ground on would cause a huge voltage drop and drain. Check wiring for short's with continiuty tester.

Try removing the battery cables so the computer will be reset. Leave it off for about 15 minutes. Then reconnect it. The computer will reset to the default settings. Every time the battery is removed and stays disconnected for 15 minutes or more, it will reset itself.

2002 dodge diesel Temperature gauge not working, have changed Coolant temperature sensor, still not working

possibly change the wrong unit
gauges work from a sender unit not a sensor
it is located next to the thermostat housing normally and has only 1 wire connection
they work by having power through the gauge to the sender through variable resistance that is affected by heat to ground
test disconnect the wire from the sender
turn on the ignition key , ground out the wire and the gauge should go straight to full hot
sensors on the other hand have more wires and relay the coolant temp to the ECM so that air/fuel ratios can be adjusted , and fans switched on as required

What makes voltage light and fuel light come on and stay on. On my 1995 mazda 929

Hi,if you are talking about the red light for the alternater is on then it means that the car is not charging, and the fuel light is to do with the sender unit in the fuel tank.
to see if the alternater is working ok you need to put a mullty metre on the battery and see what the voltidge is,get some one to press the frotal pedal you should see the reading jump up from 12v to about 14v approx,if the valtidge drops bellow 12v or dose not increase then the alternater is falty replace,
then to check that the fuel sender is working find the wires on the fuel tank take off and join together switch on ignition if the fuel diyal dose not go to full then replace the gauge if it dose go to full replace sender.
hope this was some help, all the best.

Temperature gauge not moving on 1996 mazda b2300 pick up

remove the wire connected to the temperature sender unit in the head . earth it out on the head. turn on the ignition and if the gauge goes to very hot then replace the sender unit . If it doesn't move then check out the wiring from the ignition switch ,fuse and wiring to the sender.. It may be the gauge but unlikely.

Temperature gauge

Temperature gauges will not work properly unless there is water in the radiator. For the light to come and the length of time it takes to work I would be checking the coolant level at the radiator cap first then checking the operation of the temperature sender unit.

touch the lead that connected to the sender to the ground to see if the gauge move. if the gauge move, then the problem is in the sender. if the gauge does not move then the problem is in the gauge or the wiring

Tempature gauge does not work and the

In 1992 the sending unit should be fairly easy to find it should on the intake manifold near the thermostat housing. If you disconnect the wire going to the sender, it should be just one wire and it just pushes on the sender. Once you have it disconnected take a small jumper wire and connect the temperature gauge wire to ground (or the negative terminal of the battery). Now turn the key on, the gauge should go all the way to hot, if so the sender is bad. If the gauge doesn't move you have dash problems. Good Luck!

Temp gauge stay on cold.

Switch ig. on, ground the sender unit wire for about 3 seconds see if the temp. gauge moves, if so change sender unit, if not then it is a faulty gauge reader.
