Volv s40 idle problem

I have a w reg volvo s40 1.8 se with the mitsibushi lean burn engine.
It has done 70000 miles it has been idling poorly since i purchased it, it has had a de coke and i run on shell V power high octane petrol.
There is also a lag between 2 and 3 gear at about 30 - 40 mph.
Is there a solution ?
Thank you for your assistance

Engine was running rough at low speed and was told to clean air metering unit. This cured the original problem but has now created a new problem of high tick over of 1500 - 1800 rpm.

if you have over 125k miles on it chances are your about time for a new catalytic convertor... can cause a rotten burnt smell... lack of power.. and even a stall... or no start

YOU MAY HAVE A IDLE SPEED CONTROL VALVE PROBLEM, CLEAN IT FIRST, THEN DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE I HAVE ATTACHED.

Here is the most common cause of this stall and idle speed issues, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Hi, Since you have both codes Fuel system lean and MAF low I would bet money on that you have an intake air leak after the throttle. Check all hoses connected to the intake manifold, gaskets, injectors are put in place etc.

Poo15 po133 ck45low response

oBD2 DTC P0133
it is exactly as stated.
slow oxygen sensor response..
1: bad sensor or wires to it.
2: or EFI fueling bad, (too rich ,too lean or misfire)

first tune up the engine, all filters and sparks.
id sell a volvo in a heart beat... its DOA
if the front oxy sensor is over 100k miles old. replace it .
the shop manual , this is listed, there, at 100k miles. see it?

if that dont solve this error it is a complex EFI issue.

I can buy and install and O2 sensor for $20 (Delphi made)
then make sure the EFI holds closed loop at hot idle
and at light cruises say, 45mph. no hills. flat earth.
then i check to be sure the sensor swings, 6 times a sec.
Id bet one of these test will fail..
not in closed loop is my fist test after a tuneup.
if that is true , you have bigger problems.
and lots more tests. that is what the ASE mech does, find the harder problems.

Engine mgt light stays on all the time, generally runs ok when warm but starts poorly and hunts on idle

You need to get it looked at, get a vehicle diagnostic check done, you can buy the fault code reader off ebay for about £30 then its yours for future cars. Could be one of the o2 sensors failed which is making your car run lumpy which was the problem with my T4.

Code P2187

P2187 System Too Lean at Idle (Bank 1)

Check the MAF. this could be the reason for the O2 reading lean. if the MAF is ok and, the sensor is not damaged, replace the Os sensors.
