Same with me-just walked out to the car and saw the button on the center console. Am looking for a fix.....fortunately we live in a flat area so probably can get by without it.

Had the release button explode in my hand on a 1996. Anyone know of replacement parts for the Saturns. I'm guessing they're all completely interchangable.

I have a 98 SL. Take the plastic cover off (screw on passanger side of brake) and replace button with new one. Disadvantage is replacement part is $39. (no wonder Saturn is being dumped by GM) Can temp fix w/duct tape.

Well my 97 sl2's button also flew out of the emergency brake handle. I got frustrated when i saw how much they wanted for the parts to get it fixed. But the solution was as close as my tool box. I found a forgotten tube of 5 ton epoxy resin. And since i didn't feel like spending $100,00 i took the cover off the emergency brake put epoxy gel inside the broken button put the spring on and put the plastic piece in place put on and held the button down for 10 minutes with my bare hands until set to usable strength and now it works perfectly.

Could be that you either need to replace your rear brakes or have the ebrake cable tightened....as far as the button falling off....unsure...

te black platic button is broken on the sides, I used two small pieces of a popsicle stick, cut the pieces to exactly fit the sides of the button, used crazy glue to put them together, and then simply assemble again the ebrake by removing the screw that is on the left bottom side

  • HYZOOT Jun 06, 2011

Not sure what the structural rigidity (life) of popsicle sticks may be? I have spoken to my GM parts expert just now, and he says the button is no longer available. He shows the only way he sees the button listed in GM catalogue is with the entire Emergency Brake AHandle Assembly, which lists near $100.00! To add insult to injury; GM also lists tha assembly as no longer available!
Does anyone out there know if anyone like Motor Mite (HELP) may have starte to carry this button?

Emergency brake light will not turn off

remove the console, find instructions on youtube or in a repair manual. you will find the light button switch near the base of the parking brake handle. replace it or disconnect it.

you may want to have someone take a long look at the parking brake cabling on that age of car.
perhaps an adjustment or replacement is in order.

98 saturn sl emergency brake broken the button came off and so did the spring so now we can use the emergency brake

Get a replacement parking brake lever on ebay or at a local junkyard. 92-99 SL1 & SL2 all the same part. Most likely your cables are corroded and frozen so be prepared to get some new cables at a parts store when you go to install your replacement brake lever.

The emergency break handle

Look on ebay or on craiglist for a used replacement. Make sure your cables have not corroded over holding the brake cable from moving. You may have to get new cables in order to make it sensible to put another brake handle in.

1999 Saturn SL2 - emergency brake button popped off - where can I find another button or a kit to repair the brake

Call around to local junkyards, any e-brake lever from a 96-99 SL or SW should work. There are also scavengers on ebay motors who will go out and get the part you need, saving you the trouble. Also folks selling old saturns, part by part, on your local craigslist.

My saturn won't go into park. All other gears work

some vehicles have a small slot next to the AT shifter on the floor. about the size of a car key to fit in. on my vehicle that is the release to let the shifter go into park. just find something long to stick in there like your spare key then try and return the shifter to P with the brake depressed. just push straight down, there is no turning motion to do this. this happened with my accord.

DASH LIGHTS

Check the emergency brake handle. When it is pulled up even one click (in my car) the brake light on the dash comes on and the daytime running lights shut off. Either the handle is up just far enough to activate the switch and not the brakes or the switch could be bad or loose.
