2000 Dodge Grand Caravan aftermarket radio help?

When my husband and I took out the factory radio there was an extra conector that plugged in beside the two main harneses. The wires are purple/black and whit/black. The new radio will work fine untill you turn the headlights on, then it causes the lights for the milage and navigation unit to flicker and then a burning smell came from the unit where the dimmer switch, headlight switch and the mirrors button is. What are those two wires for and what do I need to do with them to fix it. I can't find any schematics for the van or get any help from a dealership.

Wiring difference

If your installing a stock radio/cd player from another Dodge the wiring plug is the same and will fit.If your installing a aftermarket radio/cd player(JVC,Pioneer, etc)you will need to buy a adapter plug that wires up to the radio and is a direct fit to your factory wire harness,so your not cutting your wires. When you buy the adapter plug it comes with a wire diagram of which wire is what.Your aftermarket radio should have a diagram also, either on it or in the manual.Hope this helps you.
