Question about 2001 Jeep Cherokee

2 Answers

Starting problem When my 2001 Jeep Cherokee Grand Laredo is cold when I try to start it, it will start, but will not idle. After I let it run a while with my foot is still on the gas pedal it will eventually take hold and idle, but sometimes this takes several minutes. Once it has started, and I don't let it get cold it seems to start ok. What could be the problem? L. Hutchison

Its the cold start valve is either stuck or filled up with carbon first take off the hose and spray with carby clean if this doesnt fix it it will have to be replaced.
if you do a search on the net you should be able to find a diagram of where to locate it.
please leave feedback .
cheers

Not starting when cold

It may be that it is not getting a hot enough spark. Check the CCA (cold cranking amps) rating on your battery. If it's 650 or below, that may be your issue, a cold battery has less power. Try upgrading to a battery with more CCA like 750 CCA or above. Or if your vehicle is garage or carport kept, simply buy an extension cord and a heating blanket, really! Just open your hood and drape it over the "cold" engine at night...Worked for me with my old Datsun 280Z.

Check your throtle postition sensor. It monitors what postion the throtle is at and sends that info to the ecm. It will go bad and cause that problem.

Fill the rad and check for leaks. Bring the engine temp up to normal, if necessary. Try not to spill any water when filling the rad, if you do, let it dry before starting the car, JKust makes it easier to find the leak. Frankster016
