Electrical Problem Car: 1999 VW Passat V6 (American) 120000 miles This is a multi part story about the demise of my Passat. It started with the passenger window falling off track. Being a longtime VW owner, I can fix it. Not this time. I popped the window apart and saw the mess. Put it back together and ordered a new regulator. About a week later my wife drove into town, stopped at a friends and then got ready to leave. The car would not turn over. Putting the key in the ignition did nothing. The windows, sunroof, trunk latch, alarm, gone. WTF! We dropped it off at the local VW Doctor and hoped for some mercy. He doesn't do the new stuff so he sent us to another mechanic. This mechanic couldn't fix the problem bt could get it running. A jumper wire from the ignition to the starter. Wow, it starts and runs. All of the required electrical works, lights, wipers, blinkers, radio. No power to the windows, alarm, trunk latch, sunroof. No blown fuses. Is it the ignition, a relay, WTF? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My next option is to drive ot three hours to a certified VW dealer $$$$$$. No thanks. 1999 Passat for sale cheap!! Streak27

The Problem is with the Microprocessor System of your Vehicle. You should Drive 3 Hrs. to the Authorized Service Station to avoid more Wreckage to other Electrical Part(s) of Car.

Hi, i have the same problem with my 99 passat 1.8t. It started with a the starter, i bought i new one n it still wasnt the problem, damn mechanics. but they did no wat they were doin, they rewire me a button specifically for my starter. so i turn my key n push they button to turn it on, but i still have to sun roof and windows my locks stero n all lights work thankfully. Alot of things started to go but thats jus cars. but they problem suggested was the circuit board was fired. and u would have to rewire the windows individuvally. but it could, not 100% i plan on tryin it in the summer but rewire on the drivers side and control all the window only on that panel. But for ppl whom may not no about this u can still access ur window by putting ur key in the door for lik 5secs and all the windows at once go down.

Oil light and brake lights blinks on and off and abs light is on

Just a idea. If the car is running at idle and the oil light blinks , it usually from low oil pressure. At a idle your seeing the light respond to the revolutions of the engine. ! thing to try is to replace the oil pressure switch on the engine block. And #2, Most causes in a VW is that the vehicle overheated at one time and weekend the oil pump,or massive amount of miles.

1999 Passat V6

The previous post is untrue! MFA means MultiFunktions Ansiege (pronounced AAN-zeeguh).
This is a German- Americanism for Multi-Function Indicator.

The MFA displays the time, time driven since the ignition was started, miles driven since the ignition was started (trip miles are displayed under the odometer), miles per gallon, average miles per gallon, and outside temperature. I think that's it. If you click the little button on the underside the wiper switch, you can toggle between 2 different trackings. If you HOLD that button, you can re-set the avg. mpg's (but not the current mpg's, they are calculated every 30 yards), time driven, miles driven. Contrary to the previous poster's solution, it does not actually indicate anything is wrong with your car! (but they were right about scrolling through the indications with the side rocker switch) the malfunction indicator is on the cluster, it is a little engine block with a lightning bolt through it. It usually means you need an oil change. If it blinks, you have a catalytic converter problem. Hope this helps.
