Question about 2002 Nissan Xterra

1 Answer

Beeping and flashing lights

My keyfob doesn't work anymore (new battery, probably) and the xterra is beeping and flashing the lights (as if i just hit the lock button) at random times while parked in my driveway.

Both key fobs for my 2000 xterra have gone haywire. I first noticed that when I was driving, the emergency flashers would go off. Then, after locking the car and walking away, I could hear all of the locks unlocking. I finally figured out that if I held the key in my hand and gently swung the key fob, the xterra would go crazy, flashing lights, unlocking doors, etc. So every movement of the key fob (rounding corners, putting keys in purse) was causing the xterra to react. Do I have to replace these faulty key fobs or is there something else I can do to try to fix them?

save $100 at the dealer. Ready ..Make sure u have new batteries or batteries are ok. Put key into ignition. now press keyfob anf hold while turning key to on position and count to 30 seconds still holding keyfob button then turnback to left and remove key from ignition. this will reset your keyfob and reprogram your security system. You will also know when your batteries are getting low by your red and green lights wherever their located. When they start blinking 3 times in a row its a sign your batteries are getting low... good luck. hope it helps..

copy/pasted from the above link..

"Programming or pairing a new remote Keyfob for the X Type is a very simple job that will cost a substantial amount if it is done by Jaguar. It's annoying but this may need to be done if your Keyfob battery has been allowed to go flat, or the car battery has been removed for any length of time.
Follow these steps exactly and you should have no problems, pairing old or replacement Keyfobs for your car.

1.)I would recommended that you ensure all key fobs are fitted with new batteries. ( Click here to see battery replacement guide).
2.)Get in the car and close the drivers side door.
3.)Put the key into the ignition and turn to position I.
4.)Wait 5 seconds
5.)Turn the key quickly to position II then back to I four times.
6.)You should hear a single chime.
7.)Remove the Key
8.)For each Keyfob in rapid succesion. Press any single button on the keyfob you wish to pair, you should hear a chime as each Keyfob is paired with the security system. After the chime do the next Keyfob.
9.)Check operation of each Keyfob. "

Hope it works for you!

If the car goes "beep beep" when you try to lock the doors something is still open.
otherwise
Sounds like a defective keyfob try a new battery, try your spare if you have one.
If you don't have a spare you should get one anyway.
You can match your new keyfob to the car by following instructions here:= http://www.bluejag.co.uk/X-Type-keyfob-reprogramming.php

You might need to take it in to a dealer to have the fob synched to the car. Is this in Canada , USA or some other country? Some counties have an immobilizer that can become confused if they lose power completley ... like from changing the battery.

I need codes to program the key remote

You need a special computer for that. Either the Nissan service department or an aftermarket store that installs auto alarms, remote starters, etc, often have it and they can do the job.

Truck won't start, new battery, lights keep flashing

Sometimes the new battery is not 100% charged. Put it on a charger or jump start the car, the alternator should then charge up the battery.

Blinking lights after battery replacement

Solution: The remote key entry system is waiting for you to push the "Unlock" button on your keyfob to sync up the car's receiver and the keyfob's transmitter. Just push the keyfob button and the lights will stop blinking.
