Changing teromstat in sport 2.5 1998 cherokee is there more than one termostat

leave the radiator cap off while its idling untill it reaches the temp of the termostat that will open and the air will be pushed to the radiator

The Termostat fit inside the Termostat Housing. It normally links to one of the radiator hoses leading from the engine block or radiator. Depending on the model you have, the termostat housing needs to be opened, the old termostat removed and the new termostat inserted. It's quiet simple. Before closing up, make sure that the both surfaces on the housing are clean and free from dirt and old sealant. If you remove a gasket, then replace with new gasket. If the housing takes a rubber O ring, then it is advisable to replace this.

You need to read the computor, I believe if you turn the ignition three times without starting it, and the engine lite will blink, that is how you read the codes, long blinks are ten, two long blinks is 20, and the faster blinks are one, get back to me what the codes are and i'll help you.

check collant level the thermostat may have stuck in a close position then when it cooled it opened agine.start by changeing the termostat that should correct it, if you need more help e-mail me your number i will call you.

sometimes the neutral safety switch goes out and thus it doesn't start... I had that go out in my 96 jeep cherokee sport 4x4... changed the fuel pump out and then found out... I had it changed so I don't know how to do that part.... anyway hope that helps

sounds like head gasket has failed

Check the temperature sensor...it tells the computer when it's cold, and changes fuel mixture accordingly. (same as a choke used to do)
Just curious...If it only starts warm, how do you get it warm???
