Stalling during driving

I recently bought my 1993 volvo great cond. but it stalls once in awile while driving. I'll turn off ignition for a minute or two then it will start and run just fine. It seems to act up more in the heat, but less when I have at least a half tank of gas?

Hey I have a 93 Volvo 850 with the exact same problem too.....it stalls intermitently but getting more frequent...i could be going 60 miles on the freeway and it stalls!! it will take about 10-15 trys to get it started again....i have changed the fuel filter, and the fuel pump....no change in the status....I have tried gallons of fuel injector cleaners in the tank with no help!!! it sometimes has the issue at the initial start up too....it seems to be a gas delivery issue, but not limited to the relay...because it happens while driving too!! any pointers would be great!!! thanks.

I have the same 850 problem, I have a 94 turbo mine is just a sudden power loss, like rpm drop, no engine running but all electrics, then after about 2 mins or so, it'll crank right over, but if i try within the first few seconds it'll crank but wont fire, its like its not getting fuel or a spark..? Mechanic has checked relays, pumps etc, wont stall for him. Please Help!? I've researched like crazy, but i don't know, its got to be fuel..??

Its the fuel pump relay it becomes weak and sometimes no longer puls in the contactor to turn the fuel pump on after its turned it off. If you need a temporary fix just jam the relay shut, but only for the 1993 cars that have the fuel return line... had the same problem for a year took me a while to figure it out but finaly took the cover off the realy and watch it. sometimes it would not contact and the fuel pressure would drop till the motor starves. If you want to make sure this is the problem then the next time it stalles check the fuel rail pressure using the little nipple under the throttle cover... if it dribles out then thats your problem.

Possibly an ignition module or crank sensor problem. These are the two most common stalling electronics that will cause a stall when they get warm/hot and will then continue to operate once cooled down

93 dodge caravan running so rough its not driveable, constantly stalling no power does start , sometimes get 20 min of normal driving and then it all goes to pieces again. Get engine codes 12,17, 32,

Code 12 just saying battery has been disconnected or run down low recently. 32 is related to loss of power light which shouldn't be a problem. I'd concentrate first on code 17- coolant sensor. Changing that may cure your problem, but if not, a good place to start. Sensor may be telling ECM that engine is already warm, thus too lean of a mixture etc.

does this model have an ETS on it? Electronic throttle system. I could need a new throttle body. Sometimes the software goes bad and it will give the symptoms you described.
