Part of the driver side outside door handle for my 1999 Nissan Quest broke and it is still attached but will not allow me to open the driver door from the outside. Nissan no longer makes this part and I cannot find it in salvage or parts companies. It is Sage in color and I do not know what to do. Thanks

You need to remove door trim panel for access. Ford has one but you will have to paint it. buy a psray can of paint at an auto astore. paint code on your driver door opening sticker.
quest & villager are same van, built at same plant by Ford, Nissan powertrain.

Go to our site and read files. everything about villfewr quest. 3000 members. I was Ford manager of service issues on this van. I can get you part number and you can order from tascafordparts.com at discount. I also have shop manual & wiring book for sale $20. Let me know.

    REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
    		Procedure revision date: 07/27/1998




    Handle-Exterior, Front Door



    Removal

    NOTE: Execute this procedure with the front door glass in the full up position.


        Remove the front door trim panel. For additional information, refer to Section 501-05.

    Trim Panel-Front Door



    Removal

    NOTE: Power window equipped door trim panel shown; manual window door trim panel similar.


        Disconnect the battery ground cable.


        Remove the door trim panel master switch finish panel screw cover.



        Remove the door trim panel master switch finish panel.

            Remove the screw.


            Remove the door trim panel master switch finish panel.


            Disconnect the electrical connectors.



        Remove the front door trim panel screw.



        Remove the front door trim panel.

            Pull the front door trim panel to release the pin-type retainers from the door.


            Disconnect the front door lamp electrical connector.


            Remove the front door handle escutcheon.


            Lift to remove the front door trim panel.



        Position the watershield aside.


        Remove the front door exterior handle access watershield.



        Release the front door exterior handle actuating rod.



        Remove the front door exterior handle.

            Remove the nuts.


            Remove the front door exterior handle.


    Installation


        To install, reverse the removal procedure.

    I need help too please!!! The rod that extends from the door handle on my 99 nissan quest is broken so I can't open the drivers side door. Can't find the part anywhere.

the handle might of broke internally, theres a rod and a clip that gets attached to the handle. i would take the door panel off and visual look at the latch mechanism and the rod that goes from that to the outside handle

open the front door...
now you have to push the locking rod towards the rear so you can open the sliding door from the inside
just follow the B pillar down and use the passenger side as reference of that black rod

you will have to remove the inner door panel, remove screws holding panel,then unhook linkage to handle, next unbolt handle from door and remove, next is to remove lock and install on new handle,now reinstall,hope this helps, im guessing its the outside handle. here a diagram to help you.2662b88.gif

I have also broke off my 2001 Nissan Quest sliding door handle on the driver side. Also the sliding door cannot be opened from interior... Any help is appreciated... Thanks
the child lock rod may have been extended...
open the driver side door, and with a skinny finger, push that child lock rod back in towards the rear of the sliding door
use the passenger side as reference
once you pushed it in, you can now open it from the inside handle

How do you remove the drivers side door panel on a 2000 nissan quest?
On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls.
