I was in the same boat. The charge fault light came on in the instrument panel. The car had about 164k miles so I figured I had to replace the alternator. On most cars not a big deal, on this one, different story! After deciding to take it out through the R wheel well I got to the point it looked like I'd either have to move the engine or disassemble the alternator. In the process of experimenting with disassembling the alternator when I took the voltage regulator off the end of the rotor shaft I noticed it was packed with brush dust and it occurred to me that this might be interfering with the charging. I decided to clean out the brush cup and reassemble everything and see if it solved the problem. You guessed it, no more fault light. If your alternator is spinning smoothly and no other mechanical issues this might be something to try. I was not looking forward to what it looked like I was going to have to do to get it out.

UPDATE: eventually had to remove and replace the alternator. Had to disassemble the right axle and lower the swing arm as well as raise the engine a few inches. Not fun.

How do I remove the alternator. It is an east west engine. v6

Hi Rod:
- Remove serpentine belt.
- Unplug/disconnect wires from alternator. It's a good idea to label them. Taking a picture or two also can help.
- Unbolt alternator.
- Remove.... some vehicles make this awkward by having other bits in the way.
Be patient and keep track of what you're doing since you'll have to reverse the procedure to put the new one in.

Alternator in my 4 cyl Hyundai Sonata has new alternator and when put back on alterator check is still says it's bad, could it be relay?

try this! start vehicle, while it is running remove the negative cable from battery. if it stays running the alternator is good. make sure battery connections are clean and tight. if checking alternator at battery, and you know its charging. then it has to be a short in wire from the alt. if the engine dies when testing as above. its either a bad alt, or a bad wire. or bad ground. good-day!

Removal of alternator on 2000 dodge intrepid 3.2

  • Very easy one hour job for most DIY's
.Disconnect the negative (black) cable from the battery, then remove the positive (red). Unbolt and remove the upper support rail for the radiator.

  • Loosen the lower mounting bolt and pivot bolt on the alternator, but do not remove it. This relieves tension from the belt. Remove the belt.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors. The battery line is connected with a nut.
  • Unbolt and remove the alternator. Install the replacement using the reverse procedure. Torque the battery cable nut to 85 in-lbs. (7 ft-lbs.) and the mounting and pivot bolts to 40 ft-lbs.

Replace alternator on 2002 Hyundai Sonata LX with ABS

I pull the drive axle loose to remove the alternator, it gives you just enough room to wiggle the alternator out, OR you can remove the upper mount and jack the engine up and drop it down by the oil pan.

99 hyundai sonata brake light and battery light is on

I would recommend you take it to a shop and have the alternator tested, or take the part off the car and have it bench tested in a store.
You may also have a bad fuse or fusable link between the battery and the alt.

2008 vera cruz. AM reception is poor. It is better when engine is off but is still poor. FM and XM are good reception. Radio is integral with the GPS system. Hyundai has given up on fixing the problem....

Most radio reception problems that occur only while the car is running are caused by damaged diodes in the alternator. It can be difficult to diagnose this since most dealers and repair shops will not disassemble the alternator to test the diodes. If you can find a shop that rebuilds alternators they can test for bad diodes and replace them if necessary. Hope this helps.

    Alternator

Answer Use a large wrench to take tension off of your serpentine belt and remove the belt from the alternator, (just the alternator). Disconnect the wires. Remove the bolts then the alternator. Put new alternator in place using old bolts. Replace wires (may only be one wire, depending on the alternator). Get your large wrench back out, put the belt back on the alternator, and your good to go. this should do it.
