Question about 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Starting problems with 98 intrigue

My 98 intrigue with 3.8L and 110,000 miles will randomly decide it doesn't want to start. I'll put the key in the ignition and turn and nothing happens. The dash doesn't light up and the car doesn't turn over. After a few minutes of screaming and jiggling the key it will start. But then many times after starting, it will just randomly stall while going down the road.

Well I replaced the ignition switch and lock cylinder and still no dice. Now it won't hardly start at all. Is there any other ideas on what it could be?

did you remove any exrta keys from the ring ? did that help any ?

where is the gear selector located on the consel or on the steering wheel ? if its on the wheel the push the selector forward towards the park position or try putting in nutral and try there is a nutral safety switch sometime it becomesa sticky . well if you stated that problem got worse after messing around with the ignition switch then theres got to be something funny about the switch plug or the switch wires because you just replaced the switch and disturbed some wires on the plug making it worse no what do you think it is possible that you have found a sensitive area then maybe a bad connection ? play around there and with gear selector maybe its not going completly into park therefore the ignition wontwork properly as well safety neutral switch good luck try a few calculated plug and wire examinations sorry ignition didnt work for ya

I have a 98 oldsmobile intrigue. I try to start it up today and it makes a cranking noise and it wont turn over. What is the problem?

You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
Is the check engine light on ? Have you checked for trouble codes ?
It could be a relay, the ignition module, coil, fuel pump, or a list of other things.

It dosent need a new steering column. But It very well may need an ingnition position sensor. It is a sensor that identifies what position the key is in. Obviously if it was malfunctioning it would not recognize you have the key in the start position, and when it does it suddenly fires. I had a 95 Regal that had the same problem, not a cheap one but pretty necessary.

quite possibly it may be taking a little while to build fuel pressure. next time try cycling the key on and off 3 or 4 times with out cranking the vehicle to allow the pump to build pressure the try to star it up if it starts right up then your problem is it's just taking time to build pressure

Occasionally having starting problem 98 olds intrigue

Yes, it could be the VAT security module is going bad or even the key itself. Try getting a new key and see if it stops. This may take a while to actually confirm, but a key is the cheapest thing to replace. I hope this helps.

98 oldmobile intrigue just clicks when trying to start it

the problem is with your ignition switch. to check it further, attach a piece of wire to the positive terminal of the starter and directly make contact with positive terminal of the battery. do this with the key in the ignition and on position.

A common cause for this, asuming no check engine light, is a leaking fuel ressure regulator. When they fail, they leak fuel into the vacuum line causing a very rich condition- basically flooded.
