Question about 1992 Pontiac Sunbird
I had my 92 sunbird SE idling in my driveway in neutral (auto) with the E break on and I turned it off without putting it back to park. I realized after I had turned it off I had not returned it to park, so I did then. I tried to turn it back on again from park this time but it wouldnt start and the steering wheel and ignition had locked completely. also the transmition moves around freely when its turned off, I dont remember it doing that before. Help me!!
1998 models and newer use an Electronic Ignition System (EIS). If one
of the keys works and the other one doesn't, then you have a failed
key. If both keys do not work, then you most likely have a faulty EIS
module. Only proper diagnosis will pinpoint the source.
For older models that use the key blade system, usually the lock cylinder binds and requires replacement. But, try a replacement key first just in case the blade is excessively worn.
