You may have a worn out clutch or a bad/ worn out clutch actuator cylinder. Your truck uses a hydraulic booster for your clutch, and those commonly wear out. But to make sure bring it to any mechanic to have it checked out.

Manual transmission on 2001 Ford mustang gt with 4.6 not wanting to shift where exactly is the plug at for checking the fluid ?

The adjuster needs to be reset. It should then automatically readjust to provide the proper amount of clutch pedal travel.

My 92 s10 shifts hard into first gear when the motor is running

Hello Linda Hamman,

Would that we had a real opportunity to dialog... my first question would be to ask... how MUCH clutch peddle free-play you feel
before your engine attempts to move your car (loads up)...

My best guess... "NOT MUCH"

(satisfactory would be from the top third to half of the clutch peddle travel... (
on the low end)).

There are only two possibilities... That would cause that particular symptom... both rely on the fact your :input shaft is still under (some) engine power (even with the CLUTCH operated (in): As you know your clutch DISC is usually pressed between the ENGINE FLY-WHEEL and the clutch PRESSURE PLATE...
With the clutch fully operated the TRANSMISSION INUT SHAFT
is fully free of the ENGINE FLY-WHEEL and the clutch PRESSURE PLATE.

In normal operation this is the least (smallest) amount of MASS
that has to be synchronized from gear transition to NEXT gear transition.... That is to say... FIRST shift should be the EASIEST
shift... as a matter of pure mass & motion...

Al the other GEARS involve the engine under high RPM & the full mass of a moving vehicle... (as Einstein would say.. E = Mvv

(velocity squared)

The first... biggest & most likely...
possibility is that one (likely BOTH) of the HYDRAULIC cylinders
that are your CLUTCH linkage are either low, leaking or both.

Check for leaks... FIND... FIX... FILLL.

When your clutch works right ... so goes the shifting...!!

Second ... "could" be a bad pilot bearing... but that is so REMOTE that it would only resonate with a STRANGE PERSON.. Such as I.

Hope this was informative....

I'm here daily (for dialog)... comment me back if you wish.

Bleed hydraulic clutch

If that is the case you must replace the leaking part.

1991 GMC Sonoma manual transmission won't shift into gears, won't move, is it the clutch?

Usally when the clutch is bad, you still can shift gears. Check the slave cylinder or air in the fluid line. Good luck

Hard to shift into first gear

Tighten clutch cable until the car would start to move when the clutch peddle is 50% depressed, Before you do that, with the clutch fully depressed and in 2nd gear, start the car and slowly let off the clutch. You may find that the clutch has to be released virtually all the way before the car moves. It should be at about that 50% I spoke about

2nd gear clutching

STOP Downshifting!
STOP Forcing gear change, watch the Engine RPMs and shift accordingly, HOMBRE's are as good as the operator's. Hombre's have dash shift indicators which illuminate when it's time to 'shift' and not before, This has nothing to do with gear oil either. If you've drained it, you best fill it immediately and make sure it's ample level. The heat these gears sustain in is inceredible, cooling lubricant is essential. Here's a tip, while engine is OFF, ignition key is engaged, dash is illuminated, depress clutch peddle, keep it depressed and walk through all gears with gear shift, shifting should be smooth and unpeded, including reverse. If resistance is experienced at one or more gears, gear alignment is off as a result of inproper gear shifting while driving. Continue to drive vehicle just shift slower until clutch needs replacement then do an entire drive shaft upgrade. It worth it, it's great truck.
