Sounds like its in a thing called limp mode wich you will need to go to a dealership or garage with a good data scan unit and scan the cars ecu to see what trouble codes it gives out.

When im doing 70 on the freeway my rpm gage is stuck on 4,000. Isnt it supposed to drop back down to 3,000 or is it normal for it to rev high? I have a 95 pathfinder.

Hi Jesse:
This is one question that you can probably answer best yourself by considering several things.
The vehicle is now over 20 years old.
If you are the original owner you should be aware of the way it has performed right from the beginning.
Your maintenance history is also important. Fresh air filter and spark plugs can make a huge difference.
As a last resort, you can always ask the nearest Nissan dealer.

could be the battery still or it could be your battery head isnt contacting well. wen your rev the battery is good for some time and later thesame problem then i think your alternator isnt charging your battery which kills battery life span. try all this and if no charge get back to me.

Revs erratically

sounds like the rev limiter is kicking in to keep the engine from over rev damage, there should be a way to get the limiter disabled or perhaps get the turbo building boost sooner.

Tick over problem

Sounds like it could be a bad EGR valve, the trans fault codes of p1775 is nothing really, it could even be the fact that you are putting the car in gear at 3,000 revs.
If this is an intermittant problem then it goes right back to the egr valve. They clog and stick and will cause bad/rough idle issues especially on start up and also will cause spiratic idle problems.
