Best way change oil pump in 1999 dodge durango

do you have a 3.9 L, 4.2 or 5.2?

Remove the oil pan, you may have to pull the engine to get the pan off.

Changing the oil pump is not easy, the oil pump is situated in the engine oil sump. So you have to go under the car and remove the oil sump pan to get at it. First you have to drain the oil. I recommend you buy a repair manual such as Haynes from a auto parts shop for about $15 before you start the job and follow the instructions in the manual. Good luck

These truck's are bad about oil pump's, I would replace the oil pump, and hope for the best, if the knocking goes away, then it's fix, but if you still have the knocking, the only fix is an engine overhaul, or a good used engine.

disconnect battery.I believe you have to remove bolts from motor mounts,you will have to remove oil pan. you will also have to lift the motor enough to remove it.there should 2 to 4 bolts that actually hold it on.

Durangos are known for oil sludge, so you may need to drop the oil pan, and clean the screen in the pann and might have to scrape out the pan, you can also change the oil pump just make sure you install a new gasket after you drop the pan, that should fix the problem, but if the oil is very very dark goto an auto zone, pepboys, or any other auto speciality store, and get yourself some of the cleaner for the oil, you drain your pil, put the plug back in and put this in the engine, run the engine for like 2 to 5 min. and shut it off drain the oil again, then install new oil and filter, thiat should help you out.

change your oil sending unit for your pressure change gaskets for oil leak.
