Couple of things to check first check that your air filter and pvc filter are clean as well as all other vacuum hoses are hooked up properly and not showing any sighns of cracksalso check your egr valve by performing vacuum test on it or you can manually push the plunger up through the bottom of the vavle and the car should die out. also check for a leak in the intake manifold gasket

1)Throttle body butterfly stuck or gummed up.
2) Idle control valve gummed up or electrically inop..
Spray cleaners will solve the problem unless it's electrical .

My 1990 toyota corolla idles rough. I raised the idle on the throtle body so engine wont stall. except for idle, car runs fine

Vacuume leak is very probabe, check vacuum hoses for leaks, gasket leak at intake manifold or throttle body etc. I like to use starting fluid and spray around a bit. If you spray it on a vacuum leak, your rpms will noticably go up.

My 97 Dodge ram Van won't stay running.

Unless the vac leak is very large, it would not keep the engine from idling.
The computer controls idle speed by regulating how much air enters the intake thru the throttle body by use of the idle air control valve.
The throttle body could be gummed up, or the idle control valve may be faulty.

OUr jeep starts but dies unless we push the gas pedal. Then once we let go of the pedal it dies unless we can get it into drive.

Sounds like the idle air control is stuck. This is a stepper motor that controls the amount of air the engine gets at idle. Usually this can be cleaned by carb and choke cleaner. There are 2 torx screws that hold this to the throttle body. It has 4 wires on it.

Wont idle down

your IAC idle air control sensor is probably gunked up and if it is so is your throttle body...also check all vacuum line for integrity..i found a bad hose going to my MAP sensor..both of this caused problems.
Clean the IAC with throttle body cleaner not carb cleaner, and dont clean the map sensor its contolled by air vacuum, just replace the hose if found cracked, if its bad you have to replace it it cant be adjusted.

Jeep will not start unless you give it gas and then after it is running if you take your foot off the gas pedal it dies. Car has new starter.

It's nice that your starter is new, but your starter does not start the car...it turns the engine so it can start. So it has nothing to do with your problem...I would check for vacuum leaks at each and every vacuum hose. Then look at possible throttle position sensor and idle control valve./ valve passages. (there are electrical tests you can make on these and valve can be cleaned with carb cleaner, (carefully without turning internal plunger.)

I have a 2000 Chrysler Sebring that wont idle. The car starts and will run only if I step on the gas pedal.

clean the IAC. Use spray carb cleaner and spray the idle air control valve. It is on the throttle body near the throttle plate. It may have become stuck with deposits.

Clean the throttle body as well. Check for vacuum leaks

I have a 88 chevy pickup 1500 with a 4.3 liter engine. I have high idle problem. I would do it once in a while and quit. Now it up and wont idle down. I have new throttle position sensor, map sensor. all...

is the check engine light on ? if it idling high chances are you have a vacuum leak take a can of carb cleaner and spray the egr valve and if the engine rpm changes replace egr valve the throttle body may also be plugged pull the vacuum line off the map sensor start vehicle and see if you have vacuum if not remove throttl body and clean vacuum passage hope this helps
