i know i need to get a diagnostic but i dont have the money. what is an ignition signal and how do i fix it?

In my 95 Lexus ES 300, the check engine light came on and the car did not have enough power to accelerate from a complete stop because the transmission will not shift to second gear until after a long delay. After hooking it to the diagnostic machine my mechanic told me the solenoid shifter needs to be replaced, and it could be that the solenoid shifter has damaged the car computer, so after getting the solenoid shifter replaced, the car drove fine for a while but then the check engine light came on again, the car still has the same symptoms, the only good thing is that the transmission is now a bit faster to shift to second gear. A different mechanic told me that maybe I do not have to replace the car computer and just replace the two knock sensors, I got the knock sensors replaced but that did not help my check engine light is still on and the car does not have enough power to accelerate from a complete stop. Any ideas what the problem might be? Do I really have to replace the car computer?

First is to get it hooked up on the computer at a local dealership or shop and see what code the computer puts out ,
sounds like an ignition signal

it means the problem is related to your ignition system, plugs, coils, crank sensor, sounds like possibly one or two of your coils are faulty,

give all the ignition leads a good visual inspection first but it would really need the money to be spent and the diagnosis to be fixed by a professional.

    sorry

Car sputters while driving and then accelerator goes all the way to the floor without giving it any gas. I stop completly then the car can move with the accelerator again for a few miles

sounds like a throttle position sensor or mass airflow sensor. Have the codes checked. But it could possibly be a small cracked vacuum hose. I had this happen once - with customer's hood open, we were listening to an engine that was "throbbing" and "sputtering". We happened to spot a bad vacuum line, and when I blocked the crack in the line, the sputtering stopped and the engine perked right up. Replacing the bad vacuum hose solved the problem.

1995pontiac,firebird6cyl,sputters at 2000rpm

When you say "sputters at 2000 rpm" , are you referring to ANY time the engine is at 2000 rpm - meaning in Park, when you are just goosing the throttle, or in gear when you are accelerating, or at highway speed in high gear? If you are experiencing a "shuddering" in the engine at certain speeds/rpms - especially if these are speeds you regularly cruise at (long commutes at steady speeds), the problem could be in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). They have a tendency to wear unevenly if you drive a certain steady speeds. Eventually, the problem would progress to an engine code, but it may occur without setting the check engine light.

I have a 88 chevrolet suburban it sputters when i accelerate

It could be an ignition problem, or low fuel pressure.
If the spark plugs and ignition system are in good condition, I would check fuel pressure and the filter.
If the throttle position sensor is failing, the check engine light should be on.

91,000 miles I accelerate and felt the engine sputter. There small sputters, but I'm sure they're going to get worse. It also happens when I cruise around 50+ mps. No lights have come on

Sounds like you may have a small random misfire.. Have your spark plugs checked...One just maybe cracked...And sooner or later, as it gets worse the check engine light will pop on, and you can go from there..Goodluck...
