Re: wont start after running out of gas-- 1988 camper
You may need to replace the fuel pump. it is pretty spendy. the fuel pump uses the liquid (gas) that passes through it to cool the pump. without fuel it becomes hot and can fry the pump. you can buy one on stopshopanddrive.com for a pretty good price. you can test it by disconnecting the fuel line comming from the back of the pump and put your finger over it (fuel is going to come out) and have someone turn the ignition on. if you are lucky then fuel delivery should be strong enough to spray past your finger and hopefully not in your eyes. good luck.

Hi, can you hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key on? If not, try replacing the fuel pump relay or swapping it with the horn or A/C relay. Please let me know if you have questions and thanks for using FixYa.
Check your gas filter. When you ran out of gas, you got any rust in your lines and filters. Change the inline filter and use an air compressor and blow the line TOWARDS THE TANK. Take the gas cap off first. There is also a filter in your tank.By blowing the line you may unstop that filter.
