Brakes, I'm in the dark

My brakes started feeling funny a few weeks ago. When I apply the brakes, I feel like I have to push considerably farther than normal. Shortly after noticing this was happening, two lights appeared on my instrument panel. One is an orange light, circular with ABS in the center (I don't have ABS brakes, so that's weird) and the other is the light that comes on when I use my parking brake. They are both permanently lit. Any suggestions and thanks a TON in advance.

Thanks for your help. Well, I gave up before I saw your response and took it in. Turns out I had blown a break line, service center replaced it and I'm back in business.

MY 2005 EQUINOX AWD front right wheel intermittent braking and shaking

Could be caused by a sticking/failing CV joint. If you check boots and see cracks or tears most likely the Joint then got debris which could lead to failure.
Confirm that it FEELS like brakes are active but your NOT applying brakes. If this is the case then my thought on CV joint would be first check. I had one fail a few years ago and it was similar. Vibration started and then I could feel the vehicle slowing.

If you ARE applying brakes and you fee the shudder or vibration then it may be related to a tie rod end. A worn tie rod allows the wheel to go off track slightly and the result we feel when driving is a shudder or vibration.

Hope this helps guide to a solution.

I have a 2002 Passat V6 Wagon and the brakes and rotors were replaced (aftermarket parts) about 3 months ago. The CV boots were replaced 2 weeks ago. When I apply the brakes, about 3/4 of the way down,...

Check and see if the Brake Pads were re-installed with all the hardware, ie, Anti-Rattle Clips, shims etc. if your pads are not secure in the Calipers it will cause the pads to rattle when you are driving in effect causing your brakes to make weird noises, ie, groaning, squealing, rattling.

Transmission leak,sluggish drive, pull

Release your parking brake :) Just kidding. Next time it does this sluggish thing, Put it in reverse and apply your brake, firmly and safely.then see if its still sluggish going forward. don't hit the brakes or hold then when you dhift to drive but don't dally and give the guy you just backed into a chance to get to you. Kidding. Ok, no more joking Starting out from a forward stop, vehicle feels sluggish. Stop vehilcle and back up a few feet stopping firmly. Now realese foot brake and put in drive, DON'T REAPPLY YOUR BRAKES SHIFTING INTO DRIVE.see if sluggishness is still present. If it is, Your rear brakes may not be fully retracting or they are over adjusting, adjusted. Automatic brake adjusters sometimes like to over do it. If your trans fluid is low, then maybe it can feel funny but not held back. If the back and forth thing provevs to free the brakes then have the brake checked. But seriously, to save embarrassment make sure your parking brake is FULLY RELRASED. Good luck and please let me know if I've helped you.

Either have the rotors resurfaced or replaced...likely this will solve problem.

Apply brakes and rear wheels feel as if they became square and highly out of balance. They continue to feel that way for about another mile or so without pressure being applied to the brakes.

Are the rear rotors rusty?
Next check for stuck caliper ... the lug nuts and or rim will be hot after driving a few miles (and using brakes normally) you may notice blackening on your rim

How does the hydro boost fell "funny" - does the brake pedal go to the floor? Do the brakes lock up? engage immediatly? Does the brake light stay on, come on while brakes are applied? Have a diagnostics test done on it at a local auto parts store (usually a free service; stores may vary) and see if any codes show up. If so, the person submitting the test can tell you what the code(s) mean, and what to do to fix the problem.
