Question about 2002 Cadillac Seville

2002 cadillac seville

I have a 202 cadillac seville with a 4.6 northstar engine. Last year when the car had 74,000 miles the head bolts pulled out of the block. The engine was repaired under warranty. Cadillac had an insert they inserted in the block fixing the problem. 1 Year later the head bolt with the insert pulled out of the block and a headbolt on the other side pulled out taking the threads with it. The car now needs a new engine. The problem was caused by a defective block that cadillac knew about since the have re designed the block. Has anyone filed a lawsuit againt cadillac to be compensated for the costs of repairing the car.

This has happened to many northstar engines and no suits have been filed and won so far as I know. If you are a regular Cadillac customer that has purchased 2 or more Cadillac's in the past decade I would call the 800 number as shown in the owners manual and file a complaint. The loader you are the better for you. They do take care of their customers in all cases I have heard and seen quite a few in my years at the dealership I worked at

What is the toqrque spechs and order for a Northstar 4.6 engin for both head and main & rod barngs. Does the main barnings have a order

If you have to pull a cylinder head on a 1993-1999 4.0L or 4.6L Northstar V8 to replace a gasket or do a valve job, do not reuse the old 11mm head bolts. Also, GM has revised the head bolt torque values and tightening procedure as follows:
  1. In sequence, torque all bolts to 30 ft.-lbs.
  2. In sequence, rotate all bolts an additional 70 degrees.
  3. In sequence, rotate all bolts an additional 60 degrees.
  4. In sequence, rotate all bolts another 60 degrees.
  5. Torque the front three M6 head bolts to 106 in.-lbs.

My 2002 cadillac seville is over heating. where do i put the collant as i do not have a owners manual?

The coolant goes in an overflow tank, back by the drivers side shock tower. If you have the Northstar engine, test for exhaust in the cooling system. That engine suffers from design flaw in how the head bolts fasten to the aluminum block. Extremely expensive to fix correctly. It takes a Time Cert and bare block on the machinists bench. Nothing else works for very long.
Unfortunately, this repair is cost prohibitive, but I did mine, because I really like the car.

Can the Head Gaskets be replaced on a 2001 Cadillac Seville STS Northstar without removing the engine? I am thinking about buying one that needs a head gasket replaced.

Yes , but it is very time consuming and if you have never replaced head gaskets before then I would not suggest that this vehicle be your first.

AM TRYING TO LOCATE THE THERMOSTAT IN MY 2001 CADILLAC SEVILLE

Your car probably has the 4.6 northstar. If this is the case the thermostat is in the water pump housing at the drivers side of the engine. follow the lower rad hose to the pump housing and its contained in a black (2 bolt 10 mm) housing.

4.6 northstar 97 SLS how to drop engine to remove heads

well i am not saying that you are wrong but i am a GM mechanic, and these northstar headgaskets are what make me money. you will not be able to pull the engine through the top like you can for most cars, it will not fit! and yes you do have to pull the engine to do a headgasket because on them northstars, you cannot just pull the valve covers off, you have to lift the front side up and twist them off, and in order to do this you cannot do it with the engine in the car! you have to life the chassis off of the car! not only tht but the reason these head gaskets go bad is because there is not enough meet on the head bolt threads! so you will need to redo the threads on the block so this wont happen in the future! i hope this helps!

Location of engine and chassis number

There is a flat spot at the front of the right side (passenger side) cylinder head will have the last 6 of the Vin and letter code at the end of it for id purposes. You will see it looking down from the top of the motor.
