Sounds like one of the lines have a hole. You will have to let the tank down and see where the gas is coming from. You likely need to replace the sending unit/hanger assembly.

SOURCE: fuel tank leaking how to

If your gas tank is cracked or has a hole in it, you have to drain the tank, remove the gas tank and replace it, or have it repaired (if possible). If the gas tank is just leaking from the top and dripping along the side and to the bottom, you will still have to empty the gas tank, and remove it to get a good look at the condition of the gasket. It is not uncommon for these gaskets to become cracked or fragile over time because of the harsh chemicals and cleaning agents used in unleaded gas. If you do decide to have the gas tank removed, I would recommend replacing the fuel pump and fuel filter if your car has high mileage. Please rate this response if you found this helpful.

SOURCE: Fuel leaks from filler pipe to gas tank

You don't need to replace the gas tank, the filler pipe is connected to a rubber hose which connects to the tank with clamps at each end.

How can i find a gas leak on my gas tank?

Usually when a gas leak occurs. There will be a strong lingering gas odor or fuel may leak. If you can not locate the leak you may want to hire a repair shop to perform a "Smoke Test". This test is typically used to find leaks in the EVAP system but has other great uses as well. This test can help locate engine vacuum leaks and fuel tank leaks as well. You might also consider lowering the tank down for further diagnostic information. Any other questions feel free to write back. Good Luck.

It bogg down on full throttle and gas leak on top of the tank while running

if you have a fuel leak from top of tank then it could be a fuel line or O ring leaking, which can cause a drop in fuel pressure causing it to bog down. if its a steel fuel tank the tank could be rotted out. either way fix fuel leak first and go from there.

Ford freestyle smell like gas inside

Could be a small gas leak in one of the gas lines or even a leak on top of the gas tank and yes could even be a leak where the fuel pump goes in the top of the tank. Quite often the leak is on the tank top out of sight and it smells of gas even if you have a slight leak.

Gas leaking from bracket holding fuel tank. cant pinpoint leak.is there hoses on the top of the tank hidden from view?

The fuel supply and return lines connect to the fuel pump on the top of the fuel tank. And the fuel tank filler neck connects to the tank with a rubber hose. Thats on the side where you put the gas in.

I have a gas leak and we think it may be the gasket for the fuel pump...can you help me locate it?

A 99 is most likely fuel injected, so the fuel pump is inside the gas tank. The gasket for this is a large O-ring in the top center of the tank and is unlikely to leak. Thus your leak is most likely in the line, put it up on a lift at a muffler or oil change place and look underneath for the wet spot which stinks of gas, that will lead you to the leaking spot. Gas tanks themselves can leak due to corrosion, this can be where road debris collects on top, and if you have a skid plate under the tank corrosion can build up between the plate and the tank eventually eating a hole in the tank.

Good Luck

Leaking gasoline from gas tank after being driven the gas tank is not full and it stops when I relieve the pressure by opening gas cap.

there are allot of hioses and connections to these tanks that can be leaking, the leak in almost always on the top of the tank, u are going to have to get under the car and look for gasoline stains from the leak, if the gas stains go up and over the top of the tank then the tank must come out fro repair.

Fuel leaking from top of gas tank

sounds like you are going to have to drop the tank out to inspect and fix. with luck it will be leaking from the fuel pump seal or the return line.
Bad luck would be if the tank is rusted out and needs to be replaced.
Syphon as much gas out of the tank as you can before you drop it , gas is heavy.
