Mercury Sable Wagon 2001

Hello- I have a problem with my car "jumping" when I put it in drive, My mechanic says it is not the transmission. It also does not shift smoothly from 1st to 2nd but it has no problems otherwise-runs smoothly, it does make a soft whirring noise.
Thanks in advance.

1999 sable drives fine but occasionally after coming to a stop will not move forward but if you put it in reverse it will go in reverse. If you turn off car and restart it will once again drive fine.

Sounds like an electrical problem, not a mechanical problem, with the transmission. Take it to a transmission shop for diagnosis. Cost to repair should be considerably less than rebuilding the transmission.

Rebuilding the transmission. That's quite a few miles on your transmission and the seals are finally letting go.
