Question about 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Laredo-

The check engine light comes on daily - I start it up, no problem. It idles somewhat higher than it used to. I drive 5 minutes, the engine rumbles like it's going to cut out, and the check engine light comes on with the ESP light. Then it runs like normal. But the lights stay on, and it happens again the next day. Over and over again. The jeep factory authorized shop says they have it fixed, and then it happens again the next day. I've been there 3 times so far over the past 4 months. I'm pretty fed up, but at least the jeep runs ok. I'm thinking about bringing it to another jeep dealership with a shop and asking them to look at it.

Same deal, 3 times to the dealer, no fix.

My check engine light also comes on, but mostly after I have used my remote start. Then it stays this way for long periods of time. We have taken to the dealership many times, and on each occasion they have said nothing was malfunctioning. x:o

I have a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo. it began to stall at idle and now will not start

Check audibly the fuel pump. It will run for 3 seconds when ignition is turned on, but engine not started. If it makes noise, you could check for pressue at the fuel rail. There is normally a schrader valve you can press. Tske care, fuel under pressure will come out when pump is ok.
if ok, check for eventual fault codes with scanner.
could be crank sensor.

You jeep ecu is in need of repair. Your jeep is suffering from what is called the 'delayed check engine light problem'. It's a common problem on that generation jeeps, but it can be repaired. Check on Ebay for that ecu repair service.

Your jeep ecu needs to be repaired. You have what is known as the 'No Check Engine Light" no start problem. Have the ecu either repaired (a lot cheaper) or replaced. That will eliminate the delayed check engine light and wait time to start.

Have you checked the coolant temp sensor. They also have something called a MAP(manifold absolute pressure) sensor that could be causing this issue. This sensor will have a 4 pin connector and 1 vacuum line going to it. Should be on the firewall, just behind the engine.

Check your throtle postition sensor. It monitors what postion the throtle is at and sends that info to the ecm. It will go bad and cause that problem.

Oil light comes on intermittently

Replace oil sending unit (usually somewhere near oil filter) Add a pint of marvel oil to help clean passageways. Make sure wire on sender is not grounding anywhere.

Back up a minute...Do you have spark from the coil wire? (juice from coil) If so, change or check rotor and cap (wires do not all go bad at same time so unless they are wet, likely at least good enough to start engine)
