Question about 1994 Chevrolet Corvette

94 corvette dying while driving

No symptoms of a fuel problem, such as sputtering or hesitation Just dies suddenly without any rhyme or reason. Car will start after an undefined period of time. But will not re-start immediately. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you -Matt-

The car dies with no warning just as if I turned the ignition to off, or flipped a kill switch. Its goes from running great to dead in an instant. Thanks for your insight, hope this helps better pin down the problem a bit. I had the fuel pump and filter changed about 6 months ago along with opti-spark and new plugs. So now Im pretty frustrated lol.

Almost positive its your fuel pump letting you know its time for a new one.
Could also be; control module
crank sensor
battery with internal plates touching
fuel pump relay(i would change this one regardless)
Your OBD1 should have a stored code and that will probally lead to your pump or relay.

I've had the displeasure of new fuel pumps off the shelf, not work upon installation. And crank sensors beat up from rocks create what you have discribed.

Confirm its not a fuel pump or fuel pump relay

if you can send me a copy of your codes i'll point you in the next direction.

if not; confirm sufficiant air supply, good strong spark, and proper fuel pressure.

if all those are present you can start checking related sensors.

Volvo 240 dl 1987 .. fuel issue....driving down the road, car

Sounds like you need a fuel pump. There is an access panel in the floor of the car to get to the pump.

It dies while im driving i have no controll over the car when this happens

The car dying on you is one thing, the lack of control when it does so is due to the lack of power to the steering system and loss of vacuum to the brake servo. Before the days of power assistance we all had bulging arms and thighs in order to drive:-) You need to diagnose the reason for the sudden cutting out. Without additional symptoms it could be million things but I would concentrate first on 1)fuel getting from the tank to the engine and then 2) on the electrics surrounding all aspects of the ignition path.

Buy a GM code reader. It will help you . I cannot diagnose anything on this one without inspecting the vehicle but it does sound like a sensor issue

Try exchanging the MAP sensor from the other "good running" car. What I think you are experiencing is a flat MAP which fails to read more than the minimum. A MAP sensor out on these cars will make it run absolutely terrible and die as you have indicated.

By unplugging the TPS sensor you are effectively putting the car in "limp" mode. In this mode it ignores a potentially bad TPS, O2, and MAP sensors and or circuits.

Fuel pressure intermittently drops causing sputter and die.

check for 12v constant at your fuel pump if you are not getting that replace your relay.
if you are getting 12 volts at your fuel pump the fuel pump is possible to run tuel it gets warm then shut down to a lower rpm I would then replace the fuel pump

Replace the lowest cost part first.....fuel filter. If this does not solve the problem then its more than likely your fuel pump.
