My Expedition stating misfiring yesterday and the check engine light started blinking. I went to Auto Zone and had a dynogistic test ran on it and it said that the #4 cyclinder had a misfire and the EGR system had too little flow.
Please advise where the location of the #4 cyclinder is located and please advise what needs to be done to correct this.

Number 4 cylinder is the 2nd cylinder back on the driver side. Check to see if your EGR valve is clogged with carbon. If it is, clean it out and I like to remove the EGR tube from the exhaust to valve and clean it out as well. The EGR tube is a metal tube. Remove the spark plug and see if it's been firing. How long has it been since it's had a set of plugs and wires?

The EGR valve is located on the driver side rear section of the engine. It has a metal tube that screws on to it and goes to the exhaust manifold. Some have an electrical plug on it or has a vacuum hose connected to it.

it could be ignition coil(coil pack). misfire and vacuum leaks gives you engine light's on. and if fuel pump or filter not good, engine wont start.

My 1997 ford eddie beaur expedition will not start what can i do

Hi there:
You will have to pinpoint what the engine is missing... spark / fuel / compression

All three of these are tested when the engine is being cranked over. There are two way of checking for fuel. Fuel pressure and fuel trigger. Both are very important and must be present for the engine to start. Fuel pressure is self explanatory. You just hook up the gage and see what the reading is. Fuel trigger is check with a noid light. The injector gets unplugged and the noid light gets plugged in to the injector clip. With the engine cranking over, this light must blink. This is the signal to the injectors from the computer. You can have all the fuel pressure in the world, but it wont matter if the injector is not pulsing gas into the cylinder like it should.

Compression tester, spark tester, fuel pressure gage and noid light are all accessible at your local auto store. All three tests play a very important part in diagnosing a no start condition. Be extremely careful when doing these tests.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

My 2001 chrysler town and country lx has started missing real bad it ran perfect yesterday.my check engine light is flashing till i give it gas and then it stays on..help

A flashing CEL is a misfire. Since the light is on the computer has stored a fault code. Places like Auto Zone will scan the code for free (except in CA) and tell you why the light is on. This is a free service. Get the computer scanned and post the codes here that they give you. A lot of things can cause misfires but unless you want two pages full of guesses, you'll need to get those codes pulled.

Yesterday on highway 100kn an hour ran good when slowing down begain to sputter. Today supttering speratic check engine light came on blinking speed up it stoped blinking but remained on. slow speed light...

It sounds like the engine is misfiring. Get the code read at local shop or auto store. It should tell you which cylinder is misfiring then you can begin diagnosing the problem on that cylinder, whether it be a spark plug, coil, fuel injector, or you could have lean codes in which case you will have either a vacuum leak or low fuel pressure. Without the diagnostic trouble code it is hard to tell what is going on.

ACURA TL 2000 check engine light is flashing

See if your car has an ignition control module. They will go bad over time and cause random engine misfiring. Just went thru it with my 2002 Buick LeSabre. 120,000 miles on the engine. Replaced plugs, plug wires and check the coils. It was the ICM.

I have a Mazda 2001 MPV, just had service for o2 sensor and now the check engine light is blinking .

blinking light means engine is misfiring. continuing to drive will severely damage the engine. The O2 should not be related to your engine misfiring

Engine code states cylinder 2 misfire. Replaced

sounds like a bad injector, just connection at the injector, also check for leaks at intake, one more thing , do a compression test on that cylinder start there, good luck.

If you unplug the MAF sensor it should run using the default mapping. I'm having the same problem, but I want to figure out why it won't run with the sensor connected.
