It could be a few things does the switch try to activate it does the 4x4 apear in the insturment cluster , if so your switch is good and i would look at the 4x4 motor in the transfer care fairly common problem on those explorers

Why is my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Track not cranking ?

To rule out a broken timing belt, remove distributor cap and crank intuition. If the rotor is not rotating, it's the belt.

Wayne, I would start with the brake wheel sensors, most likely the front end- I would start there first.
Has this vehicle had brake pads replaced, or had recent brake work? If so, what was done, and by who? (home job, or brake shop?)

Does my 2003 ford explorer sport have front wheel drive, rear wheel drive or all wheel drive. my email is [email protected]

it is most likely an automatic awd, 4 hi is full time 4 wheel drive, 4 lo is full time 4 wheel drive but at a very low gear ratio and should not exceed 25 mph or could cause damage. and DO NOT shift into 4 lo while vehicle is in motion. Auto is a 2 wheel drive but automatically engages into 4 wheel drive under heavy acceleration.
