Yes i have the same problem. I just bought my 1991 legend, black and everything. I noticed that on hot days it had a bit of trouble starting, and cool overcast windy days it started up with not problems what so ever. Now it wont start at all either. I just sent my bud to go get a new fuel filter so we will have to see how that works. Lets hope for the best...

Sonds like I have the same problem on a hot day. My daughter drove to school this morning with no problems. But when she got out in the afternoon with temperature at 100+, car will not start. Turns over fine, but sounds like engine has no life. Electrical/electronic?

I had the same issues with my 1991 Legend 5spd 2D coupe where it wouldn’t start when the temperatures were really hot out. I did the same thing with opening the hood and the car starting. Sometimes waiting or when I closed the hood it would fire back up. It turns out the problem lies in the fuel pump relay mounted under the lower left side of the dash. If the car acts up just bang on that side of the dash while turning the motor over and it should start or just replace the relay.

As with most on this page, my 1991 Acura Legend will not start when it's hot.
I just changed the fuel filter yesterday, and still, it would not start.
Would changing the fuel pump do me any good?

I've been researching, and a lot of sources say the main relay is at fault.
is the best idea just to replace the main relay?

I agree with solution 2. I had a 1997 Accord that on hot days would not start. I could open the hood and let everything cooland then it would start right up. I changed out the main relay and had no more problems after that. Strange thing is that the relay was located inside the car under the steering wheel so I can't understand how opening the hood helped it to start.

Have the points on the FCU (fan control unit) re-soldered. This simple fix cost me $20 at a TV repair shop!! The unit is located in the passenger floor board under the carpet. You need a socket set to remove the panel the unplug the FCU. Take it to an electronics repair shop and ask the ate points get re-soldered.

This is one of the service bulletins that came out in December of 1995
To all Acura Models
Bulletin No. ASN 1295-02
Complaints of "intermittently cranks but Won't Start " can usually be corrected by opening the throttle while cranking. This little-known tip can be found in, of all places, the owner's manual.
The starting the Engine Section in our current O/Ms says, "If the engine does not start within 15 seconds, or starts but stalls right away, turn the ignition key to the START position for 15 seconds with the accelerator pedal pressed half-way down. If the engine still does not start, press the accelerator pedal the way down and hold it there while starting in order to clear flooding.
If the symptom persists with the throttle open, then follow normal diagnostic procedures.

Acura legend won't start

Acura is made by Honda, and Hondas built in the 1990s had a problem with the fuel pump relay getting hot and failing. Its located under the dash on the driver side.
If you are loosing fuel pressure I would check that relay.

Acura Coupes and Sedans 1986-1993 Repair Guide
Fuel Filter

Print
The recommended change interval for the fuel filter on all models is 60,000 miles under normal service. Severe service will require more frequent changing of the fuel filter.
The filter is located in the passengers side of the engine compartment.

CAUTION Before disconnecting any fuel lines, be sure to open the gas tank filler cap to relieve any pressure in the system and wrap a shop towel around the fuel line fitting before opening. Observe all fuel handling precautions.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1, 2 and 3

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Wrap a shop towel around the fittings and using a proper wrench, slowly loosen the fuel line fittings.
  3. Remove the 2 banjo bolts from the fuel lines.
  4. Remove the fuel filter clamp retaining bolt and the clamp.
  5. Remove the filter from the vehicle.

It is very important that ALL of the fuel line banjo bolt washers be replaced every time the banjo bolts are loosened. If the washers are not replaced the fuel lines will leak pressurized fuel causing the risk of fire or explosion.
  1. Install the new filter in position and tighten the clamp mounting bolt to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  2. Attach the banjo fittings with new washers in place. On Legend and Vigor, tighten the fuel line flare connector to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm). On the remaining models, tighten the banjo fitting bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  3. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.

WELL I WAS GOING TO SAY REPLACE FUEL FILTER, CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS BY ADDING A CAN SEAFOAM TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS.REPLACE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES. DO A LITTLE TUNE UP SEE IF HELP COLD START CONDITIONS. IF CAR STILL TAKES A LONG TIME TO CRANK. FUEL PUMP FAILING THE CHECK VALVE IN FUEL PUMP IS ALLOWING ALL FUEL LEAK BACK IN THE FUEL TANK.

Car won't start seems to be a security code that has prevented the car from starting, what's your dignosis, its a 1991 honda acura legend

Need more information but if it doesn't start when the interior is hot (like if it has been sitting in the sun) you should replace the fuel relay.

may need to take a good look at your fuel filter itself...... may look ok ....but check the line as far as you can trace it........and all relays related to the fuel and ignition system .....you'd be surprised! Exspecially the fuese.....under hood and kick panel! I have found that fuses youd think would not effect much ....turn out to be nacessaties for these exurberatated works of head turnin art.............on my third one ........even had a coupe...5speed...I know where to get a six speed...for dirt cheap.. but LUV the sedan! good luck!
