Remove the pollen filter. Buy a Antibacterial ac flush. set ac to cold, put the recirculation switch on, open all vents, switch ac on full speed, set flush away inside car. All doors and windows must be closed. This will take 10mins. Replace pollen filter with a new one. The flush will kill all bugs and germs in the ac system and the car, curing the smell. Voicey UK

Re: horrible smell coming out of the ac system
Disconnection your fan has 3-4 screws and check
for a dead mouse or two and bits of dried grass. They like to build nest in
there. If your car sits for extended amounts of time that seems to be when the
animals call it home. It was not a pleasant job for me to get them out you just
have to get rubber gloves and do it.
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

If the smell is coming from the front under the hood area, have the fuel system checked for leaks. Possible injector/seal or fuel pressure regulator leak. Check for any emission hose/s disconnected as well under the hood that may supply fumes to the engine
the bearing in the blower motor is going out causing the noise and the smell is coming from the blower motor. the parts house will give you the right blower motor for your vehicle make and model and engine size.
Did you buy the car new ? could it have been in flood watter? if it wear a dead mouse, I'm sure the smell would have been gone by now, , is the car losing any antifreeze, is there any mustier or wet spots on the floor? if you are losing antifreeze it would most likely be the heater core. otherwize if you run the A/C could be dampness from the drain being plugged up if A/c.is working properly on hot days should see watter on grownd under car front passenger side, has there been a windshield put in that you know of? hope this helped feel free to ask should you have any moor info. Thank You.
the heater core has aleak without much doubt, a pressure test at a radiator joint will confirm. what to do ---- feelaround under the dash around the heater box you will find the moisture , 2 things can be doneremove it and have it repaired,or put a new one in alternatly you can bypass it under the bonnet but there willbe no nice warm air in winter ,but huge difference in price. your call

Have you replaced the a/c air filter under the dashboard? If not get one from the dealer or even a napa (napa part # is wix 24902) The filter is under the glove box. 4 eight millimeter screws hold the cover in place. You will be quite surprised at the quantity of mung these filters collect. I replace mine every two years regardless.
